996 GT3 MK1

Great to see how enthusiastic you are with the GT3.

I'm impressed that you have already exceeded 7k revs! It took me over 6 weeks to get the courage and road conditions to get over 4.5k revs.

A pal of mine has some nasty dents on his MGB after his bike 'fell' off the wall bracket. I hope yours are double tied to protect those great curves.

996 GT3 ownership is indeed a privilage, nice to see you enjoying the 'holy grail'.

Cheers, Keith.

Console delete is money well spent and one of the best things I done to mine.

If you are over 6ft then the left leg would always rest on the centre console at an angle but now I can let it sit naturally

Looks wise so much better too as the dash is one line across like the old cars and less cluttery. Don't miss the storage either

Completely agree, not sure why so many car came with it!

All has been quiet on the GT3 front as it has been away at Porsche Torque having a new rear main seal, clutch, clutch release fork bearing, bush kit and starter motor fitted.
After a few drives I noticed an oil leak on the garage floor and mentioned it to 911Virgin who immediately said they would take a look at it, it was decided to replace the RMS, during that work it necessitated needing a new starter motor and I also decided to replace the clutch whilst the gearbox was out to save on the labour later on down the line. (It was on its original clutch that was about 70% worn)
Again awesome customer service from 911V who with no hesitation arranged to have the work carried out.

That's all good stuff for the future you've had done there, by one of the best combinations of a Porsche specialist retailer and workshop in the business :thumb:

So I've made a few purchases for the car, essential small upgrades that are all OEM and easily reversable and make a big difference to the driving experience.
First the shifter unit from a 997 GT3 RS: it replaces the plastic bushes that can get worn and thus sloppy with metal parts and also has a slightly shorter throw.
Secondly 996 GT3 Cup shifter cables: these are slightly thicker and again replace all the plastic parts with metal and combined with the GT3 RS shifter make a massive difference to the gear change.
Thirdly a 996 GT3 Cup steering wheel: does away with the airbag and is a dished, alcantara race wheel which vastly improves the steering feel.
Finally a set of Michelin Pilot Cup 2's: the car is currently running almost new Pirelli P Zero's, however I fancied fitting these instead and will sell the others on.

Nice choice of mods. Id stick to the PZero's until the spring personally :thumb:

the P0's will last you roughly 4000 miles or less. Just do a track day or two to kill them off as they wont be worth anything on the 2nd hand market

Lovely car OP - very jealous!
Gt3 is very much on the want and need list but for the small matter of cash! Will have to make do for now with mine and dream a bit longer

Great thread

Did we see you venture out to Bicester scramble yesterday ?.........if not looked a spitting image of your cracking GT3 ! :thumb:

Indeed I was there! Was a rather slippery start to the journey down the country lanes to get to the M40! Cracking day out!

Cup 2's fitted, 997 GT3 RS shifter going in this afternoon.

Good work, car looks nice.

I've just fitted the 997 GT3 RS shifter, it's night and day compared to the old one. Gone is the sloppy, lazy gear change, replaced by a shortened rifle bolt action. Well worth the money.

Beautiful car , but I nearly had kittens looking at the bike perched against the wall above your car ...!!!!!
