JLR Disco Sport worse car ever?BMW/Audi dealers worse still!

Loads of love for JLR then.....

Lol I cant even blame Mrs Sponge as I helped choose 'it'. Despite previous seriously broken Discoveries and Freelanders :nooo: :frustrated:

That ***** new Jag engine that bugs me though crap crap crap. Plus the inside I think its thick cardboard covered in leatherette. Problem is now Mrs Sponge loves the high driving position and doesnt want a 'normal' car again :x

Against my better judgement I traded in my beautiful Golf R line for the 997 C4S and kept this dogpile to go through the winter. Strangely the R lines stop start worked perfectly in all conditions, and it cranked out serious MPG.

I dread to think what the trade in value is

When I lived in Australia (admittedly ages ago) they used to say that if you wanted to go into the Outback, you should take a Land Rover. And if you wanted to get out of the Outback you should take a Land Cruiser! Almost every one out there (in those days) drove Landcruisers or Nissan 4x4s.

When they launched the new Disco a few years ago they did a big press launch out there. The car given to the Daily Telegraph chap had an air suspension failure that left him stranded. My Range Rover 4.0 was brilliant, when it worked, but was constantly in the workshop having suspension/drive components replaced, not to mention the various electrical issues it suffered from. Big question mark over the brand imho.

Absolutely 1 million percent correct.
A number of mates back home own farms, some small, some the size of English counties. They all own Landcruisers/Prado/Hilux Toyota's, although the Hilux has dropped in ruggedness a few years back. Apparently on the improve again. All the mining companies run Toyota's,even old mates at ISIS run Hiluxs for their 50mm cannons as they charge around Syria and Iraq yelling "Allah Ahkbar".
No one ever got fired for buying Toyotas
Anything else just rattles to pieces.

We've a Discovery Sport, an early 2015 car with the tried and tested 2.2l engine. It's been great, the best family car I've had and I've enjoyed it. It's currently been in the garage 2 weeks but only because someone drove into it. There are lots of problems it seems with the new engine with oil dilution and cars hammering through adBlue. However, I am happy with mine and if it comes back properly fixed I'll be buying it off the finance company and keeping it (with a warranty!)

Go to ANY sh@it hole in the world and 99% of them drive Toyota Landcruisers/Hilux's they just don't break down.

There are plenty of German car specialists and LR specialists but not many Jap car specialists..The work just isn't there for them.

Yep we have 330 of them  as for the Ad blue it drinks it. Oil diluted with?

I hate it more by the day :floor: :floor: :floor:

Buy her the last of the Defenders - uber cool amongst the Cheshire set  That said they aint cheap as it takes at least 30 bags to get you into one. With rose tinted specs you can say it's a classic appreciating asset

Having said all that my chum has just bought another FFRR which he thinks it's his 24th :what: It can handle the 3 mile Mayfair commute no problem :thumb:

This thread has put the mockers on me chopping my Merc Daily in for a Jag

Why do I use the internet :pc:

I just want to buy a British car

I recently changed my BMW X5 and I was torn between a Disco and another X5.(Liked the Audi Q7 but silly money) - Really like the layout of the Disco inside, comfort etc but my head kept telling me -"there is a reason why these come bottom in customer satisfaction surveys....." - went for another X5 in the end. Fingers crossed!

after 4 successive Discoveries (the last a 54 late 3 was actually quite good apart from the fuel consumption) we switched to an X5, then followed two X3s. Was so tempted to go back to LR as I loved the look of the cars and the current X5 seemed hideously expensive... ...until i realised that BMW would discount these quite heavily if you called at the right time (early January for us). Do I regret the X5? Not a jot its such a good car and has the towing capacity of an ox. We struggle to get less than 32.5mpg - I imagine it can be done but you'd have to be driving it like a nutter or never come out of sport-plus mode.

I so want to love LR again, but threads like this convince me yet again that they are not yet ready for it! I really have no idea why Autocar rates their products so highly and always higher than the comparable BMW models. I suspect if they bought one of each posing as a regular punter that they would change their mind on which was best fairly rapidly.

Oh, and sorry this is sounding like an advertisement - but BMW surely has the best warranty on the planet. i've had work done at their expense long after the warranty expired as well. Generally if they see you as a loyal customer that looks after their car, then they reciprocate without having to be pushed. Hey - that's something that Porsche could try!!

I am on my third FFRR. If I had to go down to two cars it would be the RR and either a Porsche or Mercedes. They can (do) go wrong, but when they are working they are great.

One of the reasons for buying this heap was the seven seats, tbf the two smallest kids detested the rear two seats from day one, even though they are still 10 and 12, the position is all wrong, no longer really need the 7 seats now.

I reckon the way to go is BM or Audi. X1 is really big enough for what we need, or may wait for the new Q3. Good as the Japenese stuff is I wouldnt want ot own one!

I'm airing towards a BM (or two) I've had gazillions of vdub/Audi but strangely never a BM. I like the X1/X3, and some of the mega high mileage late Model 3 series touring look really good value as a runabout. Good to hear that the dealers are well thought of, something that could never be said for JLR.

I'll activeky encourage the kids to steal as many sweets and drinks as possible if I ever have to visit JLR in Knutsford again. That's really the highlight of the dealership
