996 911 dumped a lot of oily water on floor

I have had reasonably good news, the garage have found that the o-rings have failed on the oil cooler, they are fitting new o-rings, flushing the system, and running more tests on Monday to make sure no other issues.

I would take this with a pinch of salt, let them fix it and pay for a PPI before you even collect it, slightest sniff of a cover up and demand money back.
I feel for you, what a horrible scenario, keep us all updated, 50 heads are better than one

Any progress on this, did you get it sorted to your satisfaction?

Welcome to 911uk

It looks to be either the cap (old caps are know to leak) or it will be the expansion bottle.

Cap -£20
Expansion bottle -£120-250 (depending on part number)

I would change both, if the bottle looks yellow in colour it's well past its best and they are known to crack and leak. You can fit the bottle yourself but it's a fiddly job and will take around 2-3 hours.

Let us know how you get on..

Dan

(Make sure you buy an OEM bottle)

A Massive thanks for this piece of wisdom.
My 2002 Targa decided to dump 1.5l of coolant in the MOT station on Wednesday. I had a major panic, thinking the worse, but after a quick search on here and seeing the cap was a known issue, decided to buy one for £20 (overnight free delivery from 9apart)
Just finished cleaning it all up, refilled, fitted new cap and tested. All now back to nicely sitting just under 80 on the temp gauge with no leaks... Happy boy again!!

Just to update you all (a bit late).

Just shy of 4 weeks from the purchase date the dealer conceded defeat with the repair and offered me a refund.

The same day after driving back from getting my refund I found a mint 2001 manual non-sunroof 996 911 from a local specialist.

Had to chop in my e46 330i m sport touring and £500. It was worth it, the car has had £10k spent on it in the last 6 years (previously owned by someone who could more than afford to look after it).

Recent works include new RMS, clutch and flywheel, new rads, condensers, Back box and tail pipes, alternator, brakes, pads, tyres, amongst other things, the ims was also checked and found to be sound when RMS done.

Thanks again for all the help.

Good result. Every dark cloud has a silver lining etc etc. Anyway, health to enjoy. :thumb:

:thumb: Great to hear, well done - nerve racking times. Even with consumer legislation on your side an issue like this can turn pretty bad. Hope your new ride makes up for any sleepless nights!

Don't forget to publish the reg. of the lemon car :thumb:

 great result, how many sleepless nights did you have waiting for the good news?
I suppose 'fair play' to the dealer for making the right decision!

Very nice.

Glad your initial experience with 996 did not put you off.
