PSE exhaust OEM replacement, or not

Hamblemark said:
I have been thinking about this too - not because the PSE is blowing, more to get ahead of the game once they get to that point after 14+ years of use.

As Demort says, the cost almost looks reasonable if the replacement lasts for the same time given some of the problems with some aftermarket options.

One thing I was wondering was whether these would be the same, but without the porsche tax?

Eisenmann made the original PSE for Porsche (you can find their stamp on the casings) so are these going to be broadly equivalent?

Interested to know if anyone else has looked into this.

Good question. I've Emailed Eisenmann to find out. Will update once I find out.

Okay, here's what Eisenmann had to say about their valved exhaust..

The Eisenmann flap rear muffler is not a 'SPORT" exhaust in the literal sense... it's a replacement exhaust for a damaged/worn down OE Porsche exhaust. It's as loud as the stock exhaust and has almost the same 'sound" (of course the Eisenmann is better J). The big difference is the material... our exhaust is made of stainless steel instead of 'normal" steel. This makes our exhaust last longer....

Yes, the OEM vacuum line can be used for flap control. The muffler/flap works the same way the stock exhaust does.

The Eisenmann rear muffler contains the rear mufflers with flap only. We do not supply install material or anything else. Just pure stainless steel.

They quoted me £1785.70 delivered, which is a saving of nearly £600 over the OEM system. There's a four week leadtime, as they're (quote) handmade to order. It's hard to tell if the quality will be like for like though. Perhaps I'll try and get more info out of them.

I must admit, I thought that the OEM system was stainless too- I'm sure it must be, having lasted over 13 years in my car.

Now with pictures!

So, here are a couple of pictures of the Eisenmann valved system, designed as a direct replacement for the OEM PSE boxes. The valve is the same, they are single skinned instead of double and they are reputedly manufactured from higher quality stainless steel than the OEM ones. I guess they would know as they make them for Porsche. I guess they would be lighter too.

I did notice that there is no flexi section unlike in the OEM ones. Does anyone think that might be an issue when fitting?

I just need to decide which ones to go for...

Dave

The Flexi part is what has been splitting on the Dansk systems .. a solid tube is no trouble as you can adjust at the silencer bracket if needed but most line up without any problems .

Ive seen it a few times on Porsche systems but pretty rare as its the seams that tend to go first .

Don't Cargraphic do a straight fit PSE replacement for around €1700 ?

A lot cheaper to just get them repaired, if possible.

Out of interest, where does one go to get them repaired, eg to get the seams on the silencers fixed? Are there specialist exhaust repairers or is it a diy job?

I saw someone mention Custom Chrome on here a little while ago, a firm in Nuneaton.

I will be dropping mine off there on Monday/Tuesday next week (he is on holiday this week) for them to be done. I had sent across pictures and Graham got back to me pretty quickly with an idea on price.

I am having my PSE taken off my C4S in a couple of weeks.
They are going to fit a Miltek system that I have.
The plan is to repair the PSE and then refit, sell or sell with the car.

I will report back when it's off with pictures of the work needed to refurbish them etc.

Just got my targa back from a service at Northway and they have warned me that the seams are going on my factory fitted PSE. Its not blowing yet so I want to look into getting the seams repaired in the short terms nd start saving for an original replacement. All the advice on this thread is helping so thanks.

Im going to check the ExhaustMod guy in Milton Keynes as he travels out to fix seams on Porsches. Will report back on how that call goes.

I've tried contacting Paul (PCW) more than a couple of times without joy.. Did you manage to get hold of him? My exhaust is blowing albeit only when cold & I'm looking to get it sorted.

PSE Replacement

Been watching a number of threads regarding the PSE, both my boxes seams are beyond repair, so I've been looking at replacements, I'd love to keep it original so I requested a quote for supply and fit from my local OPC extract below

Thank you for your inquiry on the two rear silencers for your Porsche 911 C4S cab. The cost of the two silencers are £2503.00 Inc. vat for the passenger side and £2247.00 Inc. vat for the driver's side silencer.
There isn't a fitting kit available I'm afraid, but what I have done is add all the various nuts bolts gaskets etc.. you made need this comes to as an accumulative price of £70.00 Inc. vat. I have spoken to our service department as well for you and to have the work completed by ourselves would cost £5429 Inc. vat, that is for all the parts and labour required to complete the job.

Think I'll be looking at the Topgear or Designtek options

Re: PSE Replacement

That's crazy money. Here's the quote from Porsche Centre Bristol recently for both sides (discount is Porsche Club):

"The cost provided is the best we would be able to do, I have spoken with my parts department and at present the sports exhaust is currently on back order.
The cost for the parts only including the discount is £2382.43
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me
Kind regards"

They came back in stock about 6 weeks ago.
