Time to try and sell my Turbo via SOR?

I hope to own MattyR's 993 by the end of next week. After speaking to a few garages about selling my car the number varied from 47-50 on SOR and all three were around £4000 to sell which included a warranty backed by themselves.

As mine lives in a nice garage and I've recently spent on the whole rear spoiler system, ac condensers and new MP2's all round plus I've done 2000 miles since £3000 PPI spend(bought 2015), £1400 painting the front and new Porsche windscreen that these cars probably fall outside of finance purchases now and that a buyer would prefer to save £4000 and buy privately.

I had agreed £40750k back in April time but my fiancé convinced me that if i didn't need the money or have another car to buy then best keep it. I had told her how much my old 993 C2s was worth now and she asked if i thought the same could happen, I said not to the same degree but certainly has room still to go up. So I let the guy down but he understood.

Fast forward to minor service which i was just doing to keep the history to yearly and the spoiler failed on the way to GT-One along with condensers needing to be changed also. I also decided to swap the tyres when i could of just changed the rear Rosso's.

I've had the car up from 44500 to now 43950 yet a couple of X50's are markedly lower and to me one is either a bargain or has a story or spend needing to happen and the other is not such a bargain but still makes mine expensive if its had all my spend done.

bargain X50 arguably best combo

So I want too much and/or the photos are of poor quality that you can't see how good of a car it is? When you think I've agreed to pay low 30's for a 155k mile 993 I just can't get my head round the Turbo not being worth close to what i'm asking to someone who actually wants Turbo power.

Paragon would have it back but they want it outright and 9e would also purchase it, I'm sure many others would but these are only two I've chatted about buying when talking SOR. I could even try keeping it for a bit longer but I only have garage for one car.

So who would you use for SOR? Are there standard SOR agreements?
9e = Turbo afficiendos with a new sales area
GT-One = Know the car and recent large invoices from them
RPM = Also know the car but not close to me :?:

It looks like your situation is proving what I've thought for quite a while.

i.e Most enthusiasts would prefer to pay a significant premium and buy a car such as yours from a dealer. Private ads tend to stay up for quite a while and I've often wondered whether those cars have ended up being traded in or snapped up by dealers at a price well below that advertised.

I bet if your car was advertised at £39,995 you'd have had lots of interest - mostly from dealers wanting to sell it on for £45k+.

IMO, going the SoR route with the dealer selling at £47k and netting you £42k is definitely your best option but obviously you will have to wait for the dealer to make that sale. At your current asking price of £43,950 you'll probably have a longer wait and will end up getting bid down considerably anyway.

All the dealers you're considering have good reputations so it's just down to your own preference.

Good luck.

Give Brookspeed in Southampton a call they do SOR see if you can negotiate a fixed price rather than a % of the sale price. I am sure they will have movement of a car worth what this is. :thumb: :thumb:

Im just a bit surprised as I class myself an enthusiast and all the time i've not required dealer finance I've bought privately after a PPI preferring this to the added cost buying from a dealer with a warranty. From the 6, potentially 7 used Porsches iv'e bought only the first came from a dealer.

I was bid 40k a few weeks ago by one of the places i've mentioned but thats a lot worse than had i of taken 40750 before i spent £3200. I do think its a good chance a PPI would have brought up the condensers though which would have been factored into the price.

I did say 'most enthusiasts'

Based on what I've read on here over the years at least 80% buy their 911s from a dealer.

For the record I've never required dealer finance and have bought dozens of cars privately and at auction but for anything over £20k I've always bought from dealers.

Agreed you did state "most"! :)

And the warranty does mean something coming from a reputable dealer who backs their own.

I'll give the SOR a spin.

All going well with PPI at GT-One of 993 today ill be putting my car on SOR next week.

Until then ill leave my add up and will take 42500 but no less. I've lost out by keeping it a few more months but that's how it goes. Can be PPI'd of course but as of next week I imagine its going to be £47k with a 6 month warranty.

Its a great example and someone will enjoy it more than me, just not my type of road car.

Did you actually put your car up on AT/PH/ebay? If not, I'm not surprised it didn't generate any interest.

£4k sounds like quite a lot for a SOR fee, especially if that excludes any prep work they want you to pay for prior to putting it on sale. I sold my last car via SOR, it was a total nightmare and I'd never go down that route again. YMMV of course.

I only used PH this time, I've used EBay before but I wouldn't again.

Actually one of top dealers fairly close to south west london wanted £5000 sor!!! They were suggesting returning a figure from sor I've already been bid by two dealers(none have seen the car).

I think in general anyone new to buying a porsche turbo may be a bit nervous about potential expenses, plus a bit wary of handing over £40+k to a private individual, no matter now nice the car is. People get a warm inside feeling (usually) dealing with a dealer or specialist garage.

Dovehouse where I bought mine from charge £2k for SOR if I remember correctly.

thank you - I just looked and yes £2400 plus parts and labour required for sale(maybe extra for a contribution to the warranty). I have called them and need to speak with Simon. They're not close to me unfortunately but ill chat with them.

How it worked when I bought mine from them is that they give the car a full 111 point inspection. Anything raised the seller usually pays to have rectified as part of the sale. In my case the car needed new brake pads/discs all round plus a set of new tyres. Dovehouse valet the car, market it etc, and give the car a 3 month in house warranty.

They do have a very good reputation which is why I bought from them and ive had them work on my car a couple of times since and cant fault their service. Whilst they do have all sorts of super cars they tend to know Porsche best and usually have more of them in stock.

I keep an eye on their stock and they do have an amazingly quick turn around on a lot of their cars, with a lot flying out of the door within 24 hours. Mine in fact I bought within hours of them listing it on their website.

Good luck either way with the sale.
