Nice to see this from a company :thumb:

Many thanks.

I will try to keep you informed of progress but with new tooling, moulds and production it will take a few weeks.

Whether you have fitted the part, modified it already or it is awaiting fitment we will send out new parts free of charge.

Would be great if you can swap my unfitted ones for new versions.

Will save me cutting my finger off with a stanley knife.

Many thanks for this and apologies that you have had problems and felt the need to modify our part.

My development guys are looking into this and I suspect given what you have found, we will modify the insert.

If anyone has an old part and would like it replaced with the new design please let me know at [email protected] and when the new tooling is done we will send you the new design directly.

Nice one powerflex - saves me bodging a job. Will be dropping you a line as i have a set been waiting to fit for a few weeks.

Wonder why it was designed with so much material there is the first place tho?

Is there potential for a group buy of the redesigned item?

Can't see the point - they're only £28.

Not from a cost perspective, more a "can't be arsed asking the reseller if it's the new design only to be sent the old design and having to sort it out" perspective.

As I posted in Infrasilver's thread I don't believe the issue with these is really with the ear size, it's the width of them..

There are a few different types of these inserts out there and thought I'd share pics of the ones i have.

Noticeable differences are the flanges on this version are much smaller and more in line with what Infrasilver has modded into.

But something of note is that the thickness of the flanges on mine which don't protrude past the width of the OE bush central metal section. I would say the the flanges need to float like the OE rubber spacers which are thinner than these (these are omitted when fitting the inserts) and if they don't and are wedged in between the gearbox nose mount and the horseshoe support then that is where all the NVH is coming from.

It is where it comes from, but they don't serve a purpose even when floating so why have them? It's the bush itself that does all the location and work.

That was the only reason I could think of if the bush failed or was tremendously goosed. In the case of the powerflex inserts they need the outer face up against the carrier to act as a stop and prevent them moving out, but the inner part of the insert's outer face is adequate to do that. The rest of it is just non value added waste that has created a problem in itself.

Ps: Powerflex - forgot to mention, I'm a Toolmaker and own my own Engineering business. I currently make tooling for a local company specialising in moulded rubber parts. Quick turnaround and low cost. If you need help - get in touch  :thumb:

From when I installed mine it definitely needs to have a thinner side wall, if nothing else but to aid installation there wasn't much I could do about the thickness of it other than remove as much meat as I could around the sides without it allowing the insert to slide out as Alex/Harv mentions. If the Function 1st bush has this thinner side wall, that could be the main reason it is not as harsh. And also then the section I removed from between the inserts may not need removing?

If a standard bush collapsed it would still have nowhere to go other than dropping and causing huge amounts of vibration sat in the cradle. I assume the standard rubber side sheets are more of a dust shield and a cushion for sideways movement than anything but the insert does need something to stop it coming out.

Personally I'd just do what Chris and I did. Works a treat and no added NVH. Inserts are sat fully in to the bush as they're meant to be and not clamped beteen any 2 metal surfaces. Just rubber against metal and rubber against rubber. By thinning them down you may allow lateral play that can exist in a worn bush.

We do feel that the "ears" on the insert are required it was just that on our version they were in contact with both the gearbox and the carrier allowing a transmission of NVH.

Porsche supply rubber pads to go with the mount so there is obviously a risk of metal to metal contact in some circumstances, possible high shock loading.

We have reduced the thickness of these ears significantly now and have the new parts in production.

Replacements are going out to all that sent in their details to me.

Thanks for the help on this one and apologies to anyone that was unhappy with the original design.

Once again, if you have an old part, get in touch with us and we will send out the new design free of charge.
