Independant Porsche GT3 MK1 Brake Specialist suggestions?

Whats the brake balance like on your e46? Mines a tad too rearwards now ive taken a load of weight out of it. It has BMWP 6 pots up front standard rear and rs29 all round. Im just about to go AP up front also.

I do not think that the bias has been particularly effected from standard as mine is a CSL and with APs front and rear. Mind you I have Pagid RS 29 up front and Ferodo DS 2500 in the rear (I believe these are the ones provided when you buy a new set of AP front and rears). That may of course be giving slightly more bias to the fronts than is the norm. I know a lot of those on the CSL forum do not rate the Ferodo pads particularly for track work. "Chocolate" is bandied around a lot when the 2500 comes up.

I should add that I generally do two or three laps and come back in for a cool down. I also only go on the Nordschleife Senoj so the shorter and often harder on the brakes tracks of the UK may differ.

Mines a ring special really. When the rear end grabs a bit harder than expected braking after SX it gets your attention..

I was toying with balancing it a bit using different pads, bit of an expensive trial and error process though. Depends who you talk to on the 2500, some rave some don't. My AP kit has AP branded pads wich i assume are re branded Ferrodo?

Porsche brakes are don't appear to be over-servo'd like 99% of other cars on the road... You need to be a man to drive it, man up.

You should speak with Matt @ Fearnsport. What he doesn't know about GT's isn't worth knowing. Pretty sure he would have come across this before.

Stuart, many many thanks for the heads up on Fearnsport.

The Porsche GT3 MK1 brake problems (and others) I had have now been all sorted by the Matts'. It was like an epiphany having been stiffed and let down by some for the last 7 x years of Porsche ownership.

First a quick visit to Centre Gravity to have the JRZ dampers checked out O.K. and softened for more mechanical grip. Followed by a road test by Matt senior at Fearnsport to identify the issues F.O.C.

We agreed on new O.E. discs all round, Pagid RS29 pads all round, replace the brake fluid with Endless RF650 and the pads to be bedded in before collection.

I would have loved to have had Alcon discs and bells fitted, but as I also had a complete new 4L clutch assembly and flywheel fitted funds were being strained.

Numerous other faults were pointed out and fixed, some even F.O.C. including what could have been a catastrophic oil leak pointed out from the union and pipe from the sump to the scavenge tank!

Cheers GP

Glad it all worked out, the Matts are an excellent team, the stuff they have in the workshop is incredible.

Good news indeed. Did Fearnsport manage to pinpoint the key items that were causing your initial problem or was it just out with the old and in with the new - ?

I was actually thinking of sending you a PM to find out if you wanted to have a go in mine to see if there really was a difference between ours.

I had read this thread on rennlist a while ago.

Post 293 is quite informative.

Good post and the link is exceptionally interesting.

FWIW, I was having issues with my 'standard' brakes. Fine on road, but on track, especially under heavy (and especially downhill) braking, they would judder fiercely.

Very long story short. Crap discs - no-genuine, the cheap Pagids, not the good ones (Pagid do make good stuff too) - appear to have been the culprit. They were not warped by the way.

New OEM spec discs with Pagid RS29 pads not only cured the judder, but also greatly improved pedal 'feel' and therefore perceived power.

There were no key points, just out with the old discs and pads and in with the new O.E.M. 997 Discs front and 996 Discs rear and Pagid RS29 Pads front and rear. I have also since gone softer all-round on the JRZ dampers. Plus a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres have increased mechanical grip all round nicely.

P.S. Displaying both days at http://www.deutschefest.co.uk/

Come along and say hi.
