Tiptronic issues

Hi,

Haven't posted here for ages and I trust everyone's been keeping well!

My 997.1 has been having intermittent tiptronic failure / limp home issues and it's been a devil to diagnose.

Every time the engine is turned off it loses a lot of the codes, and after several months finally managed it to get it to fault whilst the OPC was open.

Anyway, they plugged it in and diagnosed issues in the control panel and further speed sensor issues etc.

To cut a long story short they want to replace the gearbox. Seems extreme to me and I know that Porsche generally treat these as sealed units and will just swap it out. It's under warranty, and whilst I'd prefer to not have the gearbox replaced, it is what it is.

Which finally brings me to my question

OPC switching the gearbox out
Should I get them to replace the seal at the same time?wouls they do it and does it have any practical value on the 997.1.....I seek to recall the earlier 996 leaked.

More concerned about the IMS - is there any work that they could do here (or be willing to do) whilst the gearbox is out?

It's a Targa 4.

Cheers all

GD.

I'm afraid at OPC then theres very little they can do with tip boxes , no parts or info/training is available .. short of a sump gasket then thats about it , at least thats what it was when i left .

If you didnt have a warrenty then you could seek further advise from a specialist as there are a number of repairs available .

Personally i would say well done for keeping it under a warrenty and you are getting a good result .. a new gearbox which is not cheap .

I kinda understand wanting to keep it original , well kinda , but for me a replacement is excellent news .

To your questions though , if the crank or ims seals show signs of leaking then it would be advisable to have them replaced .. just tell the OPC this and they can access it once the box is out.

The ims bearing seal removal is what i think your refering too .. i wouldnt to be honest and im not sure the OPC would even understand what your request there was all about , its not something they do .

You do also have the larger nut installed and im not aware of any of them failing but Hartech or indeed Alex Yates might be able to offer more info there .
