I realise this has probably been discussed in the past but I,m going to view a 997 gen 2 S next Saturday. It,s a private purchase so it's important that l get it right. The car has a full OPC service record and a transferable OPC warranty so is it essential to get PPI done. The owner is ok for me to have the checks done, and has suggested that l get his local OPC(Leicester) to report on the car as an alternative. Also if so will it require the bores checked on a gen 2.

When I lived in Peterborough some years ago I used to use TWG Porsche in Thorpe Road to service my 964.
They are still in business and may well do PPIs I guess.

I know of only one local Porsche owner happily using TWG now. People have different standards though, I'd use the OPC or see if DW Performance at Bedford is an option.

Check the dates and mileages of the service history to make sure everything was done on schedule.

Assuming this in order - see when the last service and MOT were done. If both of these were done in the last 3 months / 2k miles I'd probably not bother with a PPI especially if the transferable warranty is for longer than 3 months.

I wouldn't bother with a boroscope on a Gen2 car.

Try Kev at DW Performance - Based in Bedford but many of our group from Peterborough go to see him and he may provide a PPI service. Ex gold standard Porsche technician worth a call if nothing else he would gladly point you in the right direction.

Not seen anything about TWG in Peterborough that makes me want to go to them for anything.

Gen 2s don't appear to suffer from some of the issues of older models but it is not difficult to run up big invoices maintaining these cars so a third party check is a wise move in my opinion especially if buying privately.

There are a number of performance car specialists in the area that I would buy from with a high level of confidence though. Most reputable indies/specialists these will agree to put the car through the 111 check at OPC.

Tried to get the the car PPI'ed at OPC Leicester and OPC Cambridge but they were too busy. Also tried TWG but the guy on the phone didn't know what a PPI was so l gave them a wide berth. Finally managed to contact Peter Morgan and booked the car in for next Thursday. Hoorah!!
