It seems they want nearly $400 per year to be able to use your photos on other third party forums/websites.

It's discussed here.

Err, or as discussed here :? http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=121736 :frustrated:

Ah, not been in there yet. Tend to stick to the 997 section for research.

Ive made a imgur account now so i'll try again.

Im gonna redo the progress thread from the beginning so people can hopefully see some photos.

Hi,

I've always wanted a 911 and after selling my beloved e46 m3 coupe i decided to take the plunge. Originally i wanted a Carrera 2 S as Carrera 4 S's looked well out my price range but after a months of searching i came across a ultra cheap midnight blue 2006 Carrera 4 S project a few months back which had a great spec including aero kit, lsd, short shift, sports seats, gen 1 turbo wheels, sports exhaust etc. As the car has suffered engine failure my first plan is obviously to get the car on the road. After that im thinking of getting gen 2 turbo wheels, drls, rear led light, black pcm and change the steering wheel.

I really want to do a progress thread as ive have already invested alot of time in the car and want to show you guys where iam with it

i brought the car as a rolling shell which was a finance re procession with no paper work. I knew i was taking a huge risk. Did all the checks on the car and they all came back fine with no outstanding finance or previous accident damage.

After receiving the log book i managed to trace the original owner on facebook and after numerous attempts to contact him he got back to me with the story of the car. The car had suffered full engine failure and the engine was taken out to source a replacement. After missing a payment on the finance the car was seized. But the best news was that he still had the engine, gear box, service history, pretty much everything to make a complete car. After a 200 mile round trip and a van full to the brim i came back with everything.

I decided to take the engine to Ramus porsche in west bromwich who stripped it down for me. He said it was the worst engine failure hes ever seen. They said the engine had thrown four rods, smashed the crankcase, smashed four pistons, bent the crankshaft, destroyed the carrier and damaged most of the valves on the head.

Since i brought the car ive been looking for 3.8 engines and they seem to be as rare as rocking horse poo so decided to search for individual parts. I was going to get new heads but there fetching over £1000 for a pair so decided to repair the ones ive got. I took the heads to bilston cylinder head repairs in the west midlands who said they can repair them and i would need 16 new valves reground and seated. After nearly having a cardac arrest after seeing how much the stealers wanted i looked for some second hand. 9apart managed to sort 12 used ones out at £10 each and managed to get the other four for around £20 each from car parts for less. Considering porsche wanted around £35 pound per valve i thought this was pretty good. After months of searching i managed to found a bloke breaking a 3.8s. So went down to swindon to see him. Came away with a crankshaft, carrier complete with four rods, four pistons, flywheel, secondary air pump, oil cooler and crank cases. Pretty much everything mark at ramus porsche said i needed. I've found someone that has some second hand rods. Im not sure as there from a different engines if they'll all need balancing or if i get three rods off this bloke and but them all on the one side if they'll be balanced. The other issue ive got is the crank case has one scored bore so it will need to be lined and there is a repair one corner of the crank case. Lucky mark at ramus has located me another crank case that requires no welding and just needs bank 2 relining.

I dont really want to spend money on mods until the cars complete but saw this oem gt3 front lip and couldnt resist.

The car is hpi clear and nothing outstanding. Its in good condition overall. The front bumper will need respraying as its caught a few times getting on the recovery truck. Its got a few scratches but nothing thats really deep so hopefully a machine polish will sort it out. No dents very straight. There was loads of creases and marks on the interor where all the parts were resting on the passenger seat and rear seats when i got it. Had to use a heat gun at distance and slowly stretch out the creases. Then used some leather restorer. Its come out loads better.

Cylinder head valves have arrived.

Quick update. Ramus have sourced two rods and two pistons in good nick. Ordered a secondary air pump pipe which was damaged previously. Dropped the valves off at the head rebuild place and hopefully have everything back next week and all parts required to start the build. At long last im getting there.

Heads all done. Valves reseated and its been skimmed. They were done at bilston cylinder repairs and theyve done a cracking job.

Got a call from Mark at Ramus to say the engine is being rebuilt as we speak and to drop the car off at the garage. So yesterday i got the car recovery trucked down there. I have deceided whilst everythings off to fit a new clutch and low temp thermostat. Also realised when i was down there i'am missing a few parts. I need both bumper heat shields. One mount for the heat shield, a passenger side drivershaft and engine trays. Drop me a message if anyone has any bits.

Managed to sourced a second hand passenger side for £30.00 already. Also found a driveshaft for £40.00 and the mounts are cheap new from Porsche.

When Mark at Ramus was about to start building the engine back up he noticed some of the rods had turned blue due to heat. So manage to locate another three rods.

Heres some pics of the engine being built.

I got a call last thursday to say the engines been fitted in the car and that it started and ran well.

It has brought up error lights now its running. After being plugged up on a diagnostics it came up that it needs two new lamba sensors and valve lift actuator sensor. Also the rear anti roll bar seemed to be missing so managed to get a second hand one cheap.

Mark had a look around the car to see if theres anything that might fail the mot. All of the tyres were really cracked and some with very low tread. Managed to get 4 part worn michelin pilotsports n rated part at a decent price. When the tyres were being changed it was noticed that the rear springs were cracked.

Being m030 springs due to the sports supension these had to be backordered from germany. The took a while to get delviered but they finally arrived.

Hopefully all the sensors and bits will be delivered and fitted by the end of the week. Then it can be taken for a test drive.

Have picked up a few goodies as well.

Got a new cayman wheel. Been looking for ages for one in sea blue.

This what it should look like once fitted. Gonna strip down the pcm and get it sprayed satin black. Also after doing some research i found out there was away to fit a aux cable to my pcm. I don't know if this has been brought up before on here. You have to unplug the cable coming in from the cd changer. Then you buy a special cable that plugs in to the port with aux cable on the end. I have brought a bluetooth adapter for it aswell. Obviously doing this you will lose the function of the cd changer but this doesnt bother me. Ive been searching for the cable all year and the only place i could find it was in america and they wouldnt ship. About 2 weeks ago a similar cable came up on on ebay form a uk seller. As im taking my pcm out anyway and consider it only cost £4 im gonna give it a try and see if it works.

Managed to get some good nick second hand rear led lights aswell. Gonna get front drls soon.

Had a phone call from mark at ramus on friday. The car has passed the mot now and is driving well. Gonna try and pick it up next week some time. After 7 months its almost finished.

Wow how brace you been! Great thread congratulations

Well done for sticking with it! Will be interested to hear your review of Ramus once you get the car back. I'm based in the West Midlands so it's always good to know there are decent specialists nearby.
I bet you can't wait to collect now!

Thanks for the comments guys! Ramus have been fantastic. Mark has a great knowledge of porsches and there engines. There very honest. Would definitely recommend.

:stay:
This is amazing. I wish I had the balls to do something like this, it must be so rewarding once you get to take it out.
I know money is an ugly subject and all that, but I would love to get a rough final cost.
Hope you get to enjoy it soon. Keep the pics coming.

I have known Ram for almost 30 years and he has always been great to deal with and a good guy to boot. Mark was a gold standard technician for a local OPC so between them you have a vast amount of knowledge and skill at your disposal and I don't think you will find a better indy in the midlands region.

Quick update. Got the car back late friday nighr from the body shop. Ive had the bumpers resprayed and also the gt3 splitter. Managed to fit the drls aswell. Inside the car ive fitted the new cayman steering wheel and resprayed the pcm and heater in satin black. It was alot harder then i expected. Also had smaller plates made and the front number plate holder removed. Heres some pictures after a quick clean.
