1995 Porsche 993 Carrera 4

PostPosted: Mon Jun 26, 2017 7:15 pm    Post subject: Body shop Peterborough area Reply with quote

I've just fitted a set of Veloce RS rep wheels to my 993 C4, despite Veloce stating these are a straight fit on 993's I've got a very slight rub on the rear wheel arches so need to get the arches rolled.

I had the car booked into Bodyshop 3000 in Peterborough today, who were recommended, but unfortunately the arch rolling tool that they have does not fit the stud spacing on Porsche hubs so they were unable to do it.

Does anyone know of a good bodyshop in the Stamford/Peterborough area that would be able to do this for me. Or better still anyone actually had this done at a bodyshop in the area.

Hello fella, I did a search and found this place. I haven't used them but I have just bought a 997 and intend to be taking it there. |I don't fancy Cambs Porsche and its a pain getting in/out from Cambridgeshire.

Thanks carkid, cousins was my first port of call but he wasn't interested in doing the job. I didn't realise that Dove House had there own body shop, I'll give them a call.

He wasn't impressed with them, particularly attention to detail. His undertray fell off on his way home from the service. This may of course be a complete coincidence Wink

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. As my car was due a service anyway I called my normal indie as I knew that they have a good go to bodyshop. After a chat with the manager he confirmed that they would be able to roll the arches for me, but as I thought the arches were only just catching to try something myself first.

He suggested that I put a rolled up magazine or a bit of broom handle between the tyre and arch at an angle and just roll the car backwards and forwards. So I tried this with a round screwdriver handle. As the road wheel turns it turns the screwdriver handle and moves it around the arch, basically imitating the special tool that bodyshops use.

To my amazement it worked, leaving a smooth rounded finish on the arch lip. I took the car out for a quick drive on a very bumpy road and on all but the biggest bumps and dips taken at a "spirited" pace there was no rubbing. Back at home I found an old chisel with a larger diameter handle and repeated the process to give a little extra clearance, another road test and now all sorted.

When the car goes in for service a case of beer will on the managers desk. Thumb
