Quite frankly, a drive in both will very quickly tell you which you prefer. The performance of the turbo is in a different league to the 2S but the 2S is a lot more subtle and also more modern.
 
I chopped a 996 turbo X50 in for a new 997 C2S as soon as the new 997 was launched in 2005. Chopped the 997 in for a 996 turbo S a few weeks later.... :grin:
