Getting a valuation for insurance

Hey,

I've just renewed my Insurance with Footman James and for the first year I've had to get an independent valuation and I'm not sure where from? I live near Chester in the North West, going to ring Footman James again tomorrow to find out more info and see if they have a list of people they deem acceptable.

I've valued it at £50k, which I think is slightly high, but finding a C2 manual thats completely rust free, having had all the bodywork sorted and full respray, decent condition interior and a very recent full engine rebuild isn't easy and I feel like the prices of cars on the market at the minute are high. Valued it slightly high as I feel like the way prices are going, in 12 months time it should be an easy £50k car if it isn't now.

So does anybody have any idea on where I can get the car valued? Also, if I'm miles away with my valuation?

Thanks,

If the Insurance has a person who handles values then call them and talk it through. I think you are probably at least 5k low for indurance purposes given the work your car has had. Speak with John he will get an appraisal sorted by Roger that will be acceptable to the Insurance company.

Thanks, it's hard to value the car as prices seem to vary so much.

I'll speak to John and see if he can put my in contact with Roger

Could you not just ask a specialist that looks after the car to give you a valuation?

Alternatively, if you are a member of Porsche Club GB they offer a free valuation service for members.

When I needed a valuation I spoke to a couple of prestige classic car dealers who gave me a decent opinion in writing which I forwarded onto my Insurance.

If you're open and honest for 5 minutes of their time I'm sure they'll help.

call me a cynic but a higher valuation just means more premium. Given that for the last few years prices have moved enough within a 12month period to make a fixed valuation of questionable worth why not have the discussion about a market value policy that has a sensible mechanism (someone like john glynn) for fixing market value in the event of a claim?

It's got to be an independent valuation from someone who hasn't worked on the car unfortunately.

Will go through the Porsche Club I think
