My 996 C2

Thanks,

Well the exhaust is still on the to do list, Steve at Goss hall couldn't locate the noise issues i was explaining to him, he wasn't able to replicate it while he was doing other jobs for me but on collection day i took him out and managed to get the buzz/blowing type noise to show its ugly voice off!! only when cold it goes away once fully warm as if its expanded with the heat, i put it down to the seams but he thinks not, he thinks it could be a baffle that has worked loose inside the silencer, so i told him to hold fire on welding the seams as i will have to have the offending silencer split / re weld the baffle and weld back together..

I will be getting an exhaust place near me that specialise on making exhaust systems take a look, it could well be the seams after all but he wasn't sure enough to go ahead.

Do you have any unwanted rattle or blow when cold? the seams on mine don't look 'that' bad neither of the silencers are rusty just a clean 'split' showing on the seam in places.

No mate, no blowing it was just mentioned when it had its service.

Spent 7 hours today cleaning the 996, i had intended on doing this for the last 3 months! i am knackered to say the least! but i let myself down with the pictures  i just didn't have any energy left to take it out somewhere and get some nice shots to show off the hard work i keep it at my parents house while i wait for the garage at my house so wanted to get back but very happy with the results should keep it in good condition over the summer.

Started off getting the car on some wood blocks (sitting too low even for my low jack), jack it up and get the wheels off one by one cleaned the arches out with ironx and used bilberry as i did with the wheels inside and out, got in most of the areas i could and treated with a sealant also sealed the wheels both sides, checked everything over and re fitted, i then set about using all the new bits i got in the post some nice new cutting compounds and new heads, i'm no pro with the rotary polisher but done my fair share with it in the past, very pleased with the result carPro fixer nano polish its a one stage does all and just what i needed for this, i then finished off with high gloss paint sealant and then a coat of Collinite 476.

I also used the carpro nano polish with the machine polisher on the front lights (slight yellowing) now completely clear and looking like new.

I also got some 'black to the future' on my order to take care of the front wiper scuttle that looks faded, this stuff is great really works well easy to apply and used it or the window rubber trims and inside the front bumper black plastic parts and lower splitter, recommend this stuff i will be interested in how long it can keep this looking black.

While i had the wheels off i sanded the brake hubs and painted with a high temp silver paint to freshen them up, look great through the wheel now and the spacers now blend in too!

Oh and the interior got some attention also.

Still on the list to do.

Refurbish all 4 brake calipers black
Exhaust repair (one side sills)
Alcantara steering wheel
GT3 dash delete
+ lots more can think right now!
Oh and enjoy the car more..only been 2 week since it turned a wheel :nooo:

Cheers everyone :thumb:

Pics to follow below.

Well that's a surprise! pictures now not working.. where yesterday.

Any recommendations for other sites like Photobucket?

Photobucket have screwed thousands of forums by demanding US$399 (I think) to allow third-party access to pictures.

Screw them. I use imgur.com.

I second imgur.com

Easy to use and no annoying pop ups and adverts.

Its a real shame they could have at least left any pictures already hosted by users and if so start a fresh and charge but i doubt that was part of the business plan :?

Thanks for the heads up, i will check them out, my only issues is that even when logged into my Photobucket account it won't let me view the pictures so i can rip them back ? i doubt i still have a hard copy of every photo on that site unfortunately, i have emailed them..

The pop up's really got on my tits, never used to be like this clearly pushing peoples nerv to upgrade to 'adfree' and now want £59.00 or £99.00 and a whopping £399pa for web hosting abilities,

As long as i can get the pictures back i couldn't give a hoot nanny about PB!!

Sorry for the thread hijack JM and I look forward to your pics once you sort them....,

For you lads using Imgur I have it but I must be really thick as I cannot find how to post a link.

Example below.
I click on link and paste it and this I what I get.

Edited as wasn't private somehow.

I'm using Postimage.org now but imgur seems bigger and will maybe stand the test of time better.
Any pointers welcomed.
Thanks.

Marky,

In IMGUR Click on the photo you want to post.

There should be a list appear on the right side of the screen: Top is "Image link", then "Top link" and so on. The one you want is "BBcode". Click the "Copy" button next to it.

In your message you want to post, just paste where you want it. Don't use the "IMG" button in 911UK Message Body as its not req.

Hope that helps

Excellent!
Thanks very much for that James. :thumb:

So it works from my desktop but not on my iPhone5. On my phone i click on pic and there's only one symbol to copy link and it isn't the correct type of link for forums.
So I think I'll stick to Postimage.org which is super simple on my phone and maybe back stuff up on Imgur, given that all my pics are taken on my phone and most of my forum activity is done when sitting at work.
(I'm working when I'm sitting by the way, but I have a lot of sitting around time depending on the job).

Cheers!

No Problem Marky911 it helps me also, i'm yet to get myself signed up but i will of course update this when i do :thumb:

See if this works, i couldn't get IMGUR to sign up as the page wouldn't load so used Postimage, great site and easy to use.

Car looks great!

Those tyres are superb, I have the same. I've found them to be quieter than P-Zeros also so that's an added bonus.

Thank you,

Yes really like the tyres, i agree road noise is't bad at all, had Michelin pilot PS2 on it but fancied a change of brand! good reviews too.
