944 turbo (SOLD)

Good to see that progress has been made Keith, after all the heartache the 'specialists' have given you. Given the work that has now been completed it is a good buy for someone looking for this model. Good luck with the sale.

Thanks Desert Dragon,

I've seen lots of 944 turbo cars that have not had any proper maintenance or repair being advertised for more money. They might look nice and shiney but in terms of value for money, I have pitched the asking price on the low side given the rare numbers of the '86 cars (pre 'bean counters' and Porsche homologation on this year only) available. It's a peach to drive, now! The cracked dash is cosmetic and a cheap fix for anyone so inclined, a common characteristic of the marque.

Cheers John,

It started as an exiting and enjoyable project. Sadly, my wallet has been raided along the opposite axis and I have simply fallen out of love with te car. Despite that, the car is now in the condition I had hoped it would be in some 15 months ago. It's amazing to drive but my head has been turned in the direction of another 2 seater.......

Thanks again,

Keith.

Hope the sale goes well Keith :)

I'm taking the '64 to Dean and Gary's for service on Wednesday, so I'll be sure to check her out :thumb:

I mentioned to a well known Porsche Specialist a few years ago I was considering a 924/944 and he told me they are were a money pit. Put me off buying one. I'm sure whomever buys it will have a good car but that doesn't change things for you.

Well here we are a few months further down the road and still no sale!

I'm keen to get a sale before the winter so have dropped the asking price to £15k. Make me a serious offer and grab a genuine bargain?

Looks like this is going to cost me a lot of pain in the wallet.

Cheers, Keith.

Details in 'for sale' section.

PM me for more details!

Cheers, Keith.

So, still no sale and it's time to take a huge finacial hit.

Is there anyone out there prepared to pay £13k?

Help!

Cheers, Keith.

That looks nice Adrian :D

Go for it if you can, amazing handling.

GLWS Keith.

GLWS but worlds gone upside down. It's still a 140,000 mile 944 turbo. Value between £3000-£6000 depending on condition and a 140,000 mile 944 turbo can only be at best an average condition car. If anyone plans on using it it's running costs will always be higher than the cars worth as you've found out. Boost leaks for fun which are nigh onimpossible to find sometimes. The most expensive an troublesome Porsche I have ever run over 150,000 miles. Still loved it though.

Thanks DD, with all due respect I have already been offered a five figure sum from the trade and a higher price again from WBAC.

If you were advertising a car for sale and I thought it was only worth half the reduced asking price, I'm not sure why I would then send you a message to tell you what I thought?

I will politely differ with your suggested valuation in the (foolishly?) optimistic view that I should get more than 50% of the actual cost to me to date. The car is way above average condition.

Cheers, Keith.

If you have been offered £10,000 + I politely advise you take whichever dealers arms off. Classic cars can be money pits and no doubt from your perspective this car has not been an enjoyable thing to own and if a dealer pays £10,000 + for that car fair play to them. Its worth half that and I've owned 3 of these cars (a turbo s, S2 and S2 cab) and have probably forgotten more about them than most people. Perhaps the bubble has inflated its price to this level who knows :?: :dont know:

Indeed!..I have owned about a dozen 944's of all varieties over my 27 year Porsche career.
My 220 was the same colour as Keith's but with burgundy interior.
I paid 7k for it in 1992 and I think it had done about 75k miles.

This is the cheapest turbo around by a mile and It has clearly had much love and attention not to mention money spent in recent times.

Things move on and this is a bargain! I paid 11k for my concours 911sc sport in 1996 and at the same time you could get a 930 for about 5k more.

I wish I could turn the clock back because I would of kept them all.

Thanks Kas,

It only takes one person who appreciates the thick walled cars to realise how much of a bargain this is.

Thanks for your supportive comments.

Cheers, Keith
