If it was a metal one left for that length of time you'd have a cooling system full of brass and aluminium dust, and a bit of problem with a fairly inefficient new water pump..

Wow

Boil in the bag cooked 996 engine comes to mind, what sort of readings were you getting on the water temp gauge?

Luckily I noticed at a roundabout on the way out from home that the temp had gone past it's normal stopping point (by about 5 deg).

Turned heater on felt luke warm so made a dash for home......

Temp gauge made it to the 110 deg mark.

So no boil in the bag

I figure this pump has been in the car since new as the gasket had not been trimmed.

It is now trimmed and all cleaned ready for the new pump to go on.

Low temp thermostat ready to go back on as well.

Changed out the belt pulley wheels at the same time as it was off.

All I can say is wow

Finally finished putting it back together and what a difference.

Hate to think how long that pump has been on the way out but must of been a good while.

The engine is so quiet now and I thought it was the alternator.

What gets me I had it at a specialist fairly recently and they did not pick up on it.

Hey ho.......now just the handbrake, change of springs and sort the roof to go.

But a big tick off the list.
