Has any one done ECU Remap on their Cayman?Topgear do one and seems quite good results...

I'm also looking into getting my Cayman remapped. More for an improvement in power delivery rather than an increase in power.
Several people have told me not to bother as it isn't worth it. While I spoke to a guy who'd had his Cayman remapped at Zentrum (Porsche specialist in Nottingham) who said he was very happy with the result.

I would also be interested in people's thoughts on this.

Increased risk of bore scoring?

Thanks for the reply Paterson I was looking to see if the power gains were worth doing?Topgear say extra 20bhp after.

Not sure about that Topgear remap :)

A 997.2 Turbo (compared to the 997.1 Turbo) has bigger inter-coolers, revised turbos, 200cc over the previous model and makes 27HP more.
A 997.2 GT3 ( compared to the 997.1 GT3) has 200cc more and other updates (remap and fuel I am guessing) and makes 20HP more.

caymam remap

So are you saying leave as standard? :dont know:

Not at all... just saying 20HP from a remap might be a little unrealistic. But I do not doubt it could improve drive-ability and fuel consumption etc.

I have just had my Boxster 3.2 S remapped.
I asked Parr in Crawley about it and they said that there would not be a large gain in power or torque but the drivability will be improved and there will be some increase.

They were right it was the best £229 inc VAT that I have spent.
The car is so much smoother and nicer to drive and really pulls harder from 4000 rpm.

I was considering a custom map that Parr were willing to arrange but good on them they said that for the considerable extra cost it was not really worth it - they could have just taken my extra money.

They claim 13 bhp and 22nm gains which to be honest are probably more realistic then some of the exaggerated gains claimed by others which I think are over optimistic on a normally aspirated engine.

I did not have a before and after rolling road printed out but like I said earlier I am very pleased with the results and for that money it was worth a punt.

I would do it gain

One company even lets you pay £25 to test the remap for 24hrs, it then self resets and if you want to go ahead permanently they refund the £25.

Sorry can't remember who they were though.

As other have said the drivability is the key , a remap for the NA cars is more important to move the power curve to optimise the engines power delivery rather than the stock map that is a compromised map with input from bean counters , eco boffins, the sales guys who wouldnt be able to sell flag ship models if the lower level cars were just as fast. and every one else out there who wants to stop the car from being what it has the ability to be.
The remap moves the power curve and gets gains in delivery in the low, mid range which to be honest it where most of us spend most of our time on UK roads . If you wanted to track the car with max gains them you need to do some other bits as well . So you might only see gains of 12/ 15 BHP hence the comment mostly from guys that havent done it , that its not worth doing but what they havent realised because they havent done it ,is the low mid gains are where the actual car changes its character and adds smiles. Nothing wrong with topgears remap as a std off the shelf remap, but if you wanted a bit more and to have it tweaked to your cars specific engine then you need to double the cost of the top gear remap and go to someone like DMSautomotive in Southampton. Hope that helps explain why you are getting different feedback. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
