Problem with not running the car enough

I had to ring Porsche warranty yesterday regarding a engine management problem. It had a amber and red light. They sent a engineer out today.
He manage to sort out most of the problem. I have a sensor out on the wheel, but not sure which one. Hopefully it's under warranty.
The chap said I need to run the car abit more to stop the light coming on (mix of fuel) I think he said.....
I was wondering how do overcome this problem reoccurring in the future, I only do about four thousand miles a year and I really don't want to put on to much miles......

Need more info really. Should be fine on that mileage I would think.

4K is ample if that is what suits you.
I have never reached that figure with any off my weekend cars over the years and my specialist has never once said that they are underused.

There are owners doing far less than 4K a year. Unless of course your 4K is achieved in one lump (euro trip for example) and then the car is not used for the rest of the year.

I did a quarter of that last year and the same the year before and (so far) its been fine.

I think the engineer was referring to the effect of old and degraded fuel on the engine: you may need to add a fuel preservative to the tank, if you leave long gaps between driving the car.

I have the same EMS issue on my other car as I'm currently away while it sits in a garage on a trickle charger. It ran like crap on idle when I was last home. I need to burn more fuel and keep topping up with fresh fuel. :wack:

...or did he mean run the car a bit more to warm it up when you start it?

Folk for example start up, move it out of the garage to wash, then start up to move back in again. This can cause fuel mix issues and flooding when you start the car up next time.

4k a year per se is not a bad thing, but I would make sure that the car was driven for at least 1/2 hr each time to get it warmed through.

Very good Les

A sensor on the wheel would be an abs sensor i would have thought and that will have nothing to do with how long its been sat for.

Again for fuel to go stale well i would have said over a year at least , ive only ever seen it once and it was in a car that had sat for over 2 years .

OPC dont tend to send out mechanics so is this an RAC guy ?

Overall theres no reason at all why you cant leave the car for 6 monthes at a time if you wish , cars are stored for far longer without problems where i work anyways .

I have Porsche warranty. So I would assume they would send the right person.
And also he said you can get a Diagnostic Tool Scanner Code to reset it when it comes on.
I have a wheel censor out but he could not tell which one.
I need to take it in....
