Hi chaps, has anyone fitted these?

After my service report last week where my springs need sorting, I'm looking at these and doing a diy job as my good friend has a garage with a lift :)

Easy enough ? Mines a 2005 3.8 with pasm so do I disconnect battery or will it right itself after a short drive as usual after disconnecting the pasm wires?

Also, are they set up standard or have you got to set the ride height etc yourself :?

The shocks are ok but the tubes have corroded away on two ( 1 front 1 rear) so may as well freshen the whole set up.

Thanks in advance :thumb:

B16s are some very nice fully adjustable coilovers for a great set up. And they're serviceable which is always helpful.

Thanks for the reply max. I'm looking at fitting new springs and shocks all round along with top mounts. Don't want to be adjusting anything when they are on.

Like I said, I've got pasm and want to fit like for like without making the car set up any harder while lowering the stance.

I've been told by my specialist that the knock I'm getting from the front are worn top mounts and he's also reported I've got a front n/s spring that's got a hairline crack in it, so won't be long before it goes altogether.

All other springs are corroded and 2 shock tubes corroded and breaking away.

Might as well do the lot and get the car freshened up to date.

Wheel spacers ordered along with new centre caps and wheel refurb booked for end of week.

Major service done last week and my wallet is taking a hammering :what:

With PASM, you'll be fitting replacement Bilstein B16 Damptronics, not passive B16s. It might be worth getting them sprayed with the specialist aero corrosion inhibitor that Phil997 wrote about some time back (I don't remember the name of the product).

I had to replace both my front springs, the bearings and all the rubber rings and bump stops, as they had all failed (to some extent) on a warranty inspection, but it's worth doing both sides equally and properly. The top mounts were fine. You could check all the bushes while you're in there (suspension arms, anti roll bars) as well.

Then you should get a new alignment, maybe add a little bit more camber at the front (half a degree) to improve the handling.

These are expensive cars if you want to stay on top of the maintenance.

Like ive said im a maintenance freak. Bit ocd with that side of things.just want opinions on what to go for as there's so much choice.

Oe shocks with lowering sprngs or coilovers :dont know:

Thanks anyway :thumb:

If you don't replace like for like (and retain the Damptronics), B16s are a good shout, but would need some time to set up as they are fully adjustable coilovers. You may want additional parts such as top mounts ad control arms for the full flexibility. The alternative is the Ohlins R&T, which is what I'd fit if I had passive suspension. But they'd still need some time to get set up properly, with the likes of CoG for example.

Hi,

I have not got them fitted but plan to before the end of the year. Also looking to lower the car without effecting the ride quality which i am told this will achieve. Ken at 9e has fitted them to a few cars and sold me on it so I will be interested to hear how you get on :)

Thanks chaps. I've got pasm and want to retain it.

Also need new top mounts on front but will fit new to rear also.

Looked at sachs top mounts and new bump stops.

All i want to do is fit new shocks/springs get it all aligned and forget about it.

Just need some advice on whats best without messing about with set up.

The car way out performs what i throw at it.

Fun trying though

Hi Alfaian,

Any updates on your suspension mods? Did you end up using aftermarket top mounts or OE items?
I am also looking to get B16 damptronic for my 997.1 S

Cheers
Vinnie

I have Bilstein-B16-DampTronics fitted to my 997 2S (PASM)
They were fitted by an independent and the set-up refined by Center Gravity.
Since the car has been to Center Gravity it is a joy to drive.
The coilovers are great, slightly firmer than standard but not vastly so.
Sport mode for track only.
Overall, the car gives me much more enjoyment than it did with the standard suspension set up.

Thanks for the replies chaps.

Still not made my mind up yet and looking at all options.

Spent a few bob recently with major service and wheel refurb so might leave it a little while.

While the wheels were off getting done i inspected the shocks and springs and found a patch of surface rust the size of a 50p peice on n/s front shock and specs of surface rust on the other 3 so, im contemplating just fitting a set of lowering eibachs and rubbing down shocks and painting them.

New top mounts and wheel spacers to boot
