Ok so a few weeks into 911 ownership I think I'm noticing a couple of potential faults with the car main one being the gearbox, car is a 997.2 Carrera later 09, has just gone 60k today, it had a clutch & flywheel fitted by 9excellence at around 50k 16months ago. I seem to have a little bit of crunching changing from 1st to 2nd, it doesn't happen all the time and it might just be me not hitting the clutch fully but they other changes are fine, all the same I'm a little concerned, I've only got 3 months warranty on the car so going to have to get this checked out for piece of mind only, just wondering if anyone else here with a 997 gen1 or 2 has suffered the same
 
Both 996 & 997 manual cars including Turbo and GT3 can suffer synchromesh problems on 2nd gear. After ruling out clutch adjustment issues, if it still persists, you will be looking at a gearbox strip and rebuild with minimum replacement of 2nd gear synchro, sleeve collar and cog plus possibly other parts that require replacement due to wear and tear.

Try to sort it out sooner rather than later under warranty. Be aware though it may not be covered under warranty wear and tear exclusion clauses.
 
Have you managed to have the issue seen? Findings?
If you haven't spoken to Mike at Sports & Classic, I'd recommend it. He has a lot of expertise on these gearbox issues. You can also checkout his web site as it provides some guidance on typical issues he resolves.
 
Would engine mounts being banjaxed manifest itself in more ways than just 2nd gear changes?
Just a thought.
 
Might be worth changing the gearbox oil to make sure correct grade is in there. I've had a few cars with this issue, which usually improves with temperature. The synchro cones get worn and have difficulty spinning up the gears when the oil is more viscous. One work around used to be to use a slightly thinner oil with higher specification so as not to increase wear. not sure if any one has tried this on here but it worked on a 944 I had.
 
Spot-on Chris. This issue could be due to things mentioned here, but according to Mike my local Indy, it usually points to a gearbox strip and rebuild.
Quite common judging by the number of gearboxes he has in his workshop for the same fault across 996, 997 and GT3 cars of the same model range.
 
Took it to a specialist near me and he had a drive of it, he said it seems fine and probably down to me not being used to it, have to say in the last few days of driving it I haven't noticed it at all, fingers crossed its fine
