To sell or not to sell? - Gen 1 - 997 2S

I don't see why you'd get rid- there's room for kids in the back.
When my lad was born I ran a TVR which had to go- no rear seats at all, so option to retain did not exist.
It took me 20-odd years until I could get another.
Keep!

Well - dare I say it... Sell it!
I just sold my 2006 c2s Aerokit. It went the same way I lost my M3!

Having polished it, sorted out front suspension rubbers (inner and trailing arms, Top mounts) other bits and pieces, the car felt like new, but just like you, after 6 years I was hankering for a change. Kids growing up and I have a BMW 330D I felt I could go smaller. So I advertised the car for silly money like I did the M3 on the basis that if I didn't sell it, so what, I still have the porker!! It sold the very next day and I hand her over tomorrow in the knowledge that someone is getting a sorted car (with the engine made from chocolate of course).
So now the hunt begins, and as I am over 50 now I might have a go in one of them automatic thingymajigs. I will be test piloting an F-Type this weekend.

Worse thing that can happen is I end up buying a 911 Turbo - who knows?

So, you looking for a modern car feel, with bluetooth, probably better mpg, maybe a bit more performance.... I know! how about a Gen2 😜

F-Type :nooo: Pah! Nice posers car, but really not a sports car! Very wooden feel to the steering and no feedback at all. IMHO :D

Ive owned two gen 2 997 C2S and also two B8 RS4s

The RS4 is at least a generation perhaps two ahead of the 997s
The interior, practicality, gearbox and performance of the RS4 is far ahead of the 997.

If you buy an early RS4 (2013) it will likely cost around late 30s and in 4 years time be worth early 20s...... the 997s probably worth give or take what it is now in 4 years time.

Im not a big fan on putting young kids in the back of coupes on a daily bases - always worried about how they could be extracted in the case of a big head on collision, if the driver is unconscious etc.

Edited to add

Just checked the price of early Rs4 (2013) now early to mid 30s

You can bet that some old Audi won't be exactly cheap to own / run. Possible false economy . :dont know:

A gen 2 is way to go. Bear in mind the non S is still a great car with the newer 3.6 about same performances as gen1 3.8. Only say that if your budget didn't stretch

Last thing I would do is sell your P&J . Some PCP deals get you into some great cars these days (for family duties)

Thanks for the comments all, much appreciated.

I went for a test drive in an M140 yesterday and as someone has mentioned above, they are quick and good. And me being 6'5 they are not bad inside, marginally more room than the 997!

Gen2 is out as i'm not sure it would solve my problem, i know its better across the board than the Gen1 but i think if i were to sell up, i'd potentially go down the RS4 route or put my son on ebay and buy a 991. But again, as has been mentioned they are early 30s on Audi approved used now and i worry how much they'll slip when the new one comes out..

If you're unsold on a gen 2 because it's not different enough from what you have now, it sounds like upgrading the stereo on your 997.1 isn't going to tick the boxes either.

You could wait a bit longer - and save another £5k. 991s are starting to creep under £50k. They're basic, with lower end specification, and from non specialist dealers... but here's a lovely looking example for ~£50k. It's a 3.4, but produces the same output as a 997 3.8s.

Here's another with OPC warranty, for a touch over £50k. I have issues with people that write adverts in capslock however, and this one is badged as an S

1200 miles, 66 reg, it's almost half price!

Wife's is a pre reg 66 plate with a handful of miles, effectively brand new M24i cabrio, list was £44,700, paid £31k..... Bargain :)

No way of finding out where that dealer is located, just says Shropshire. It takes me 90 mins to drive out of Shropshire (South to North), so could be anywhere.

Company has only be registered for a month, so I'd treat it as a private seller personally.

Perhaps I need to do a bit of research into a new head unit that accepts Bose then!

It's a shame the cheap deals on the Golf R's of last year are no more!

most head units will work with bose you will just need to add a MOST optical interface for a couple of hundred quid I have fitted an Alpine head unit in mine does everything 3d maps , spotify streaming, DVD , bluetooth,IPOD . speed cameras . you could do the job depending on which head unit from £400 up to £1200 :thumb: :thumb:

Get a normal comfy golf type car for the wife but don't sell the 911.....at least not for a year or two.

You're having a baby soon, not a 12 year old - they are very small! You can still go out at the weekend (comfortably) with the wife and bubba with a baby seat in the back for at least 18 months.

I speak from experience. I have a 997.1 Turbo with 2 baby seats in the back for my now 4 year old twins and a booster in front for my 8 year old. All three of my kids have been in the back of 911's since birth - I never heard them complain aside the normal screaming..........

I echo the above, get the wife to run the family car and keep the analogue 911.

If you get rid of the 2+2 now, how long will you have to wait for another...? (Unless you can get away with a 2 seater?)

My kids are 7 & 9 and fit in the back of my 997. When my 7yo can't fit behind me, (I'm 6'4) I'll have one in the passenger seat. We rarely all go out in the Pork.

I've had mine two years and plan on keeping it as long as I can.

Edit: or you could buy a Cayster AND a runaround, with the wife running the family wagon
