Mine is leaking very slightly from the level sensor. I have read about dropping the engine, undoing fuel pipes and all sorts. Mostly on American sites and some relating to convertibles. Can anybody who has done this confirm what is actually needed please?

I've got a brand new genuine tank I was going to advertise. My car is going this week, so won't need it now.

Are you saying goodbye to your Mk1 GT3 mike?
We used to chat a bit on P'heads around the time you bought it and I had mine.
Will you be replacing it with anything?

On topic, I've never changed one but it looks like a right faff. My Indy reported mine was loose somehow and refitted it properly but I didn't watch.

Stupid how hard it is to access.

Replaced mine on my 996.1 c4 .didnt have to drop the engine but did remove the fuel filter if i remember (it was two years ago) If I remember you have to twist the tank out??

Hope your well Mark,

Yeah, it's going this weekend. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, I want to clear my mortgage and maybe get a cheap Elise but I may just sit on the cash and see what the market does.

Sounds sensible and probably a good time given the values. All the best for the future. :thumb:

The tank was removed by dropping the engine as low as it would go and removing one of the engine mounts. It then twists sideways and slides out. On removing it I realised it can't be leaking from the level sender as there is no access to the tank from there, on inspection it was leaking from a small crack in the tank not far above and running down:

New tank arrived today, fitted a new level sender as well as they can go brittle over time. Sensor was fitted when the tank was put back in as it makes it easier to get the tank through the gap.

Engine lifted back up, all pipes re-attached and coolant topped up, ready to start it up tomorrow.

It looks like I need to re-route the emergency boot release too....
