passenger side lights/parking lights fuse keeps blowing

anybody know why this is happening, its the fourth fuse along at 5 amps, also on the circuit I believe, is the door buttons that activate interior lights, as they are not working via the buttons, but work when you operate them on the lens, also the engine light is out, I suppose they are linked.

Doesn't seem to be anything loose, number plate lights work alright, so they must be on a different circuit.

headlights work ok, dipped and main.

the fuse pops immediately.

help!

Passenger side light has its own fuse .. i suspect theres a wiring short in either the front or back light units .. it could in theory be anywhere on that side but i would start at the light units .

The interior lights have a single feed going to them .. the switch side gives an earth .. if it lights in manual position then its nothing to do with that .

Need to look at a wireing diagram for the number plate lights .. off hand i think they work off of one of the side lights .. ill check.

EDIT

I think your car is covered by this diagram and if so its just the side light from no.8 fuse on that circuit and nothing else .

thanks a lot demort, it seems odd that both button door lights are not working, they did last week, could it be that if one packs up, the other goes with it, I wouldn't have thought so though.

the side lights are on two circuits as is normal, so I suppose the next step is to take out the passenger side light units to look for the problem.

maybe a bare wire?

p.s its fuses 3 and 4 on a 1982 sc for sidelights. Also engine light not working, this could be the bulb, as I think they are on all the time with just the shield to turn the light off.

Ok thats not the right diagram for your car then lol

I would still start at the light units .. you have a short or a bare wire if the fuse is blowing straight away .

It is possible that the interior light is connected to a side light fuse .. it rings a bell with me anyways on some models , but without a correct diagram for your car then i cant say .

Each door switch is individual of the other but its an earth .. it gives an earth to the light unit , if you switch the interior light switch the other way then it joins it to a permanent earth.

For them not to be working then i would start at the door pin switches , remove and earth the wire basically and see if they work .. same with bonnet switch .

The rear boot lid light if fitted is often wired to a side light .. thats how i wire them anyways so thats a possible fault if its fitted to your car .

Im actually in the process of rewireing a 1982 911 at work and i know for a fact that we dont have a wiring diagram .. ours are either 1984 onwards or prior to 1979 .. sorry :(

thanks a lot, one more question, my engine lid shocks have packed up, so wont hold the lid open, I watched a youtube fix, and on there I heard him say, you can get away with just changing one shock, given that I don't have the whale-tail then do you think this will suffice, or would you change both?

x1 shock will work ok several models only have 1 shock .. whale tail and you need x2 and usually fitted to one side.

its only really people like me that need them .. unless you work a lot on your engine .

But to be honest .. they are not a huge expense to change both :)

So I take the car to be looked at, its diagnosed as a fault with the engine courtesy light unit, it gets disconnected and I am told the fuse doesn't blow anymore. I am then told its very difficult to remove this unit to renew it as a bolt is seized, So now I want the courtesy door lights fixed, I am told that its a separate circuit without a fuse, and that the drivers side is showing no current at the switch area and as it powers the passenger side that wont work either.

I am told its a break in the wire that is in the A-pillar, yet I frankly think this is bollocks, they were working perfectly 5 days ago, how the fk would a wire break inside a pillar.

I am told that for this work and a new bonnet shock and a few wires tidied up its going to be £300, yet my problem is still there with the courtesy lights.

I am pissed off,

What part of the country are you in ?

Is the garage you are useing an air cooled Porsche specialist ?

Break in the wire inside the A pillar ? hmm

the lights have a single permanent feed , you then have an earth and a switched earth from the door pin switches depending on if you have the double switch interior lights .. some had just a door pin switch and not the turn on permanent earth switch .
