Gen 1 Cayman (987) as a Daily Drive?

Certainly the colour is very limiting. That is on the 'would like' list - although I think 'not silver' is probably on the must haves... Looking at what is available at the moment the sports seats are most definitely the exception to the rule, but I think need to be on the must have list.

Cheers

I wonder if you might have to take the seats off the list and maybe add them later?

Finding a PASM car is going to be hard enough. I looked for 3 months.

I think you might find the 2.7 manual with the 6-speed box torquey enough. Did the one you tried have the 6 speed?

Yes, the 2.7 had the sport pack and PASM so was a really good drive. It certainly wasn't lacking in power but driving it back to back with the 3.4 just highlighted to difference. Would I be unhappy with the 2.7 on a daily basis? Certainly not. But the feel and willingness of the 3.4 was what I was after. This may have been entirely down to my getting a bit more comfortable with the car by the time I drove the second S, but it's one of those things that says if you are going to own something, get the one that embodies why you are buying it in the first place...

I am still not ruling out the 2.7 tho... Head vs heart etc... ;)

Cheers

I use my 3.4S gen 1 manual as a DD, and I love it. Most of my commute is M1, noise or firmness on the 19"s is not an issue for me. I glad I got the 3.4, I think I would have always been yearning for the bigger engine if I got a 2.7.

A bit of advice though - make sure you have everything in place ready to buy your car. Sound obvious, but it took me around four months for the right car to come up for sale and by the time I had sorted money etc. it sold, I was gutted. Good spec cars don't hang around! it took another three months for another with similar spec to come up for sale. I am not condoning rushing in to a purchase, just make sure you have all your ducks lined up so you can get things sorted quickly.

Get one and enjoy!!

Looks like I am reawakening an old thread but, what did you go for in the end?

I drive a 2006 Cayman S Manual.

It's got:
19 inch Carara S wheels
Sports Chrono Pack (PASM, PSM, Re-maps the Throttle)
PCM 2.1 entertainment system
6 Speed Manual.

I use it as a daily drive to do school runs, shopping, commuting, track days - all sorts.

The only issues I have had with it so far is that one of the 02 sensors on the cat was loose and rattling and I now have to replace the water pump.
The 02 sensor was a 5 minute job, to tighten free of charge, at my local exhaust centre and the water pumps are considered pretty much consumable items on these cars.

The car has covered just shy of 80k, no smoke, doesn't burn oil. Considering this, I don't think a new water pump is too much to ask really is it!

You won't get the best mileage with one of these, that's just not going to happen and I highly doubt you'l get anywhere near the manufacturers claimed MPG. Besides most journeys start off with the best will in the world but that right foot soon gets heavier...

Don't listen to all of the rubbish spouted all over the internet about IMS bearings and bore scoring. When you look for a car, look for one that has been obviously looked after, has not been a garage queen and, if you are really worried, get an inspection done and factor this into your budget.

Looking up pretty much any search term such as "engine rattle porsche" on the internet is a bit like looking up "strange lump" or "breathlessness". You'll pretty much convince yourself that you either have cancer or heart problems and descend into a blind panic and a self-fulfilling prophecy. There are too many unqualified people behind keyboards giving sketchy opinions based on other inaccurate pinons people have published online.

My biggest gripe with this car, by a long stretch is the fact that the PCM2.1 entertainment thingy does not come with Bluetooth connectivity for your phone or music and there is not even an aux in anywhere to be found.

I've had mine a DD for 5 weeks now, absolutely love it.

Can't fit my road bike in there, but that's the only negative.

You can fit a roof rack to the Cayman! It has fittings for it...
:D

Yep, plan to get a rack sorted in the Spring. That said, I did actually stumble across a pic on Google the other day, where someone had a road bike frame in the back of their Cayman.

Not that I would subject my bike or my Cayman to such abuse! haha

I'll remember that is SWMBO annoys me.
