The Porsche 911 GTS line-up has been facelifted, with all models boasting 450hp / 440bhp with the return of the longest 911 rear badge name '911 Carrera 4 GTS'

Unveiled at Detroit motor show and set for UK sale in March, the five new 911 models – Carrera GTS, Carrera Cabriolet GTS, Carrera 4 GTS, Carrera 4 Cabriolet GTS and Targa 4 GTS – all run a powered-up version of the German car maker's turbocharged 3.0-litre horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine.

The new 911 GTS is available to order now, and first deliveries will arrive in Porsche Centres in the UK and Ireland during March. The recommended retail prices including VAT for the new 911 GTS model range is as follows:

911 Carrera GTS £94,316.00
911 Carrera 4 GTS £99,303.00
911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet £103,158.00
911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet £108,144.00
911 Targa 4 GTS £108,144.00

With 444bhp, the forced induction engine delivers 30bhp more than in the facelifted 911 Carrera S and 20bhp more than the naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat-six cylinder unit used in earlier 911 GTS models.

The new engine also pumps out 405lb ft of torque at 2150rpm, giving the 2017-model-year 911 GTS models an added 81lb ft some 3600rpm earlier in the rev range than with the engine used by their predecessors.

As before, buyers will be able to choose between as standard seven-speed manual or optional seven-speed PDK dual clutch gearbox. While the Carrera GTS and Carrera cabriolet GTS retain rear-wheel drive, the Carrera 4 GTS, Carrera 4 cabriolet GTS and Targa 4 GTS all receive standard four-wheel drive.

The performance leader is the four-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4 GTS, which boasts a claimed 0-60mph time of 3.6 seconds, with the lighter rear-drive 911 Carrera GTS claiming the highest top-speed at 194mph.

As well as taking top speed honours, the dual clutch PDK equipped version of the 911 Carrera GTS also boasts the lowest consumption and emissions of the new line-up, with a claimed 34.0mpg on the NEDC cycle, giving it a CO2 rating of 188g/km.

Setting the facelifted 911 GTS models apart from other facelifted 911 models is a unique front bumper and modified rear spoiler. The four-wheel drive Carrera 4 and Targa 4 versions also receive a characteristic light trim strip between the tail lights, while the rear-drive versions use a black trim strip.

There are also darkened tail lamp lenses, a blackened air intake grill with the engine lid, centrally-mounted tailpipes also in black and GTS logos within the lower part of the doors.

Inside, the seats receive GTS logos on the headrests and the steering wheel rim, armrests and centre console are all trimmed in Alcantara, while brushed black aluminium trim strips have been fitted to the instrument cluster.

All of the GTS models receive the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system, which sees them ride 10mm lower than the standard 911 models. Also included as standard are 20-inch centre lock alloy wheels finished in silk-gloss black.

They also all flaunt the four-wheel drive 911 Carrera 4's aluminium body shell, giving them a common width of 1852mm and wider track measurements than standard rear-wheel drive 911 models, while it also gets the Sport Chrono Package as standard equipment.

Spec seems pretty much as expect - 3 litre turbo and 450 hp (only 20 hp up from the old NA model). No prices as yet :thumb:

They get you from A to B very fast- but with no soul or spirit.

...and the most essential item on the options list to tick : no model inscription. :hand:

Just red or silver?

#update: The online configurator is working today. All colours available!

Mine's a Targa 4S please.

I know not really the point, but over 34 mpg for 3.6 secs to 60, 194 mph is pretty astonishing.

Drool!!
But, over 102k for the C4 GTS with PDK then add options, lol I could easily talk myself into a Turbo! Good job I am not in a position to ;)

Black on Black 4GTS Targa would be a proper stealth weapon. 8)

C.

Stop it :frustrated:

Why did I open this thread :hand:

Hmmm. Got to 120k without trying that hard. That's a lot of cash for a posh Carrera. Getting close to 911 Turbo/McLaren 540/Audi R8 V10 money.

WJ, you are right - not much problem in getting to £120K on a 4 GTS with some well chosen options. At this price point, other new cars, or second-hand cars (such as a 991.1 GT3), really start to become viable options.

If you compare a 991.1 GTS model to an equivalent 991.2 GTS model, there is circa £10K difference which is hard to justify for a 20bhp overall gain and NA giving way to TT. :dont know:

Makes the 991.1 GTS look more interesting.

For some reason I think the Turbo engine might suit the Targa a bit more than than the Coupe so if I wanted a Targa a 991.2 might be on the radar!

My 991.1 C4S is three this summer so big decision time. I had a drive in a 991.1 GTS 4 when they came out (about 6 months after I got my factory order) and I loved it so much I nearly PX'ed it on the spot despite it having few of the options I had held out for on the factory order!

So a 991.2 GTS4 should be my perfect choice, but I've yet to be convineed that I'll get over the way the 3.0 responds - particularly at the bottom end coming on and off the throttle at light loads. I can play my 3.8 like a brass instrument and it never fails to sing. In comparison I find the 991.2 shouts - it is a fabulous car, but my brain is hard wired to the 3.8 and it feels weird everything else being the same, but the engines characteristics being so different.

Tried an i8 last weekend and have had a couple of goes in an R8 V10 Plus too. i8 was admirable and very relaxing to drive, but didnt excite. The R8 excites, but is totally impractical... not to mention pricey! But Audi were offering me mad money for my C4s that meant it wasnt out of reach.

I've read the turbos and PSE have been retuned on the GTS which may move it closer to the 3.8 aurally and response wise, but who knows.

Would have had a 911 R had my money been good enough for Porsche. Really should join the local golf club I guess... Disappointed that my time with 911's may be up as I dont want what they will sell me and they wont sell me what I want!

Love my C4s and may end up just extending the warranty. but life is too short not to enjoy getting new cars when you get the chance!

Great write up weejimmy.
