Engine bay cleaning tips

Hi,

Wondering if any of you have any tips for cleaning the engine bay.
I have removed the airbox and found the aluminium block to dirty and oxidised.

Is there any easy way to clean the aluminium up to a reasonable shine?

Thanks.

Neil

It's a flat engine, it gathers dust.

Personally, I wouldn't bother for two reasons:

1) no one looks at Porsche engines (they are squashed in the back and only accesible through a letter box - it isn't a polished chrome manifold-fest of a Ferrari etc engine bay - the 991 doesn't even have an engine!)

2) "Cleaning" poses more problems than it solves: use water, or worse, detergent liberally and you'll fry the electrics, use solvents and you'll strip the coatings/sealants/grease that is protecting the engine

If you were to do anything, use a micro-fibre cloth and/or toothbrushes and work small areas with WD-40 as the thinner to lift grease and debris on the relevant parts, but no more.
