I would think even the best company can make mistakes* the test is how they put things right for customers if a mistake is made.

*Porsche come to mind :)

Not sure Porsche consider it a mistake even now (specifically even after losing class action lawsuits).

They made a very deliberate and considered decision to commission the M96.

And in doing so achieved the thousands of pounds savings per M96/97 they intended (so every 996, 997.1, 986, 987.1)

As to your second point: they stuck it to their customers.

Mostly because they could (outside warranty), and why a class action suit was required to compel them to put things right.

Of course, outside the US, you're fugged.

I was primarily referring the the rebuilder in this current thread; the Porsche bit was just an aside.

Just a thought the two scores down the bores show the pin moving out and cutting the bores, would there not be scores between these lines as the clip would touch the bore first.
Or could the clip not have been fitted at all.
Just thinking :?:

I'm sure the clip was fitted, just not very well and it attaches to the piston not the gudgeon pin so by the time the gudgeon pin was running up and down the bore the clip would have been already sat at the bottom of the sump for some time.

I have a crankcase, pistons and clips so I could run a mock up if that helps.

That would be awesome! :thumb:

At OP, have you had any joy with dealer or builder sorting out the destroyed engine for you....... :?:

Dealer ignoring calls and has refused recoded delivery letter. The builder has not heard from the dealer and has offered nothing to me. Thanks

That is bang out of order.

You are being incredibly tolerant, I would have named and shamed by now.

OP, sounds like you've not just got grounds to name and shame, but also get your solicitors on the case?

If you intend to go legal, I'd not name and shame just yet as it may prejudice your case.

Employ a solicitor, mate.

You may already have access to a solicitor included with your house/car Insurance so worth checking the policies.

Before going the solicitor it might be worth turning up at his premises unannounced even if it is quite a way away, don't tell the other staff the true meaning of your visit.

Conduct yourself with dignity, don't do anything that could later incrimate you in court. Maybe take a picture of yourself at the dealers with a date stamp for evidence. The dealer could use all sorts of excuses in court as to why they didn't return your calls or accept your letter.

If they are still not willing to be reasonable you will have to go legal to get somewhere, ensure that you have a solid case as rogues tend to know all the tricks. If that still doesn't work then name 'n' shame.

What a nightmare OP hope you get it sorted and NOT at your cost.

Mother of life...I've never seen an engine like that with catastrophic results. I know there's lots of advice going your way from members trying to help.

All I'm going to say is:

Consumer Rights Act 2015. There's lots of advice on nearly all the motoring websites like Auto-Trader and the. GOV website.

Your head is probably spinning with everything, so I would take a step back from it and let a solicitor deal with it. Choose a solicitor who solely specialises in consumer law, take copies of anything you have and give the whole file to them.

I wish you every bit of good fortune :thumb:
