Unbelievable!!!!! I have a 2002 C2 996.2 and at 1:10pm today my engine decided to make a big bang, give a huge puff of smoke then leak all its oil onto the roadside Sad . Now in D9 Autotech in Porthcawl assessing how many thousands of pounds I need to stump up for the car I've owned for just over 100 days!!!! _________________ 997.1 Carrera S

Well that's a right bar steward and no mistake.
But I must say, when I saw the thread title I was expecting something of a porn nature. Ah well _________________ 2012 997.2 Turbo Basalt Black. Bit of a 9E ing.

Was there any "notice"? Any odd running / noises beforehand? how was it being driven at the time?
Made me wonder how long I've had mine - 180 days today... _________________ 996.2 Carrera 4 Convertible Tip

Extremely bad news and very sorry to hear it. I hope it gets resolved one way or another. If it was bought from a garage it would be just outside your consumer rights or 90 days although garages often offer a bit more than the statutory.
No doubt it was a private sale but I hope you keep us posted on the progress.

Sorry to hear this terrible news
Can someone ( who knows ) clarify whether Porsche are still supplying new short engines for 996 3.4 and 3.6
I seem to have read a thread the other day suggesting that they do _________________ 1998 996.1 C2 3.4 with "Aerokit Cup"

Im sorry to hear this as well , not a post i would normally comment on ..
Your description is of an IMS bearing failure im afraid .
It can be repaired .. but its not cheap
EDIT ..
Not sure on the new engines but a call to OPC parts and they could soon tell you . _________________ .

Wow, sorry to hear this, feeling your pain.
If as Demort says it is retrievable what would be usual components required, is it a full rebuild?

Ims bearing lets go .. huge amount of metal through out the engine .. it all has to be removed ..cam timeing will have slipped .. the damage there is unknown untill its stripped.
A full strip down with reassembly is approx 35 hours +plus parts .
Hartech are the experts here i just go from what i remember from the last engine i rebuilt which to be honest was a while ago .. engines are not really what i do .. sorry . _________________ .

Sorry to hear this mate. Your engine going pop is never something that you want to hear. All anybody can say at this point is good luck and prepare for the wallet to be absolutely shafted. This is pretty much what happened to me but mine didn't detonate itself, it merely cracked a head.
What you need to do is decide if you want to put another 7 to 12k into it or if you want to cut your losses and run.

Sorry to hear this. The strip will show what else is needed. You might consider a comprehensive repair with new liners (to prevent bore scoring in the future) with new pistons, new timing chains/tensioners, new clutch (if its a manual) or torque converter seal if its an auto.
Before all that, the decision is do you sink £10k-£11k into the car knowing you will not recover that but will keep it forever and enjoy it?
Let us know what they find when they strip the engine. _________________ 996 2002 X50 Turbo Manual

Can a 3.4 be fitted into a 996.2? They seem much more reliable. _________________ 2000 C4 Tip
