Given that both cars are too much for y(our) local roads it sounds like you should consider garaging the 997 in Nurburg and just use the 991 for getting there and back.

Your idea does have some merit !

Great, I'll help you out.

You can drive the 997 down for the last time and I'll follow in the 991. We can toss a coin to see who drives back.

.... :floor: that's so not going to happen !

Why :?: I'll pay for the petrol and it will be nicely run in by the time we get back.

Ok...here's a different perspective, albeit with two very different GT3 RS cars.
I'm fortunate to own a 997 GT3 RS gen 2 and a 991 GT3 RS. I totally concur
with all of the above comments from the various poster's about the 991 being
light years the nicer car to sit in. The cockpit is just superb, and it certainly
does have all the mod cons and 21st century toys to play with. Point to point,
it has more grip, more go, bigger brakes, and the rear wheel steering make
the 991 feel really chuckable...and then there's that trick PDK box too. The
level of driving refinement in the 991 is up two notches, not one.

My 997 has sat in the garage unused for five months (since the new car made
it's appearance)....until yesterday. Ok, the 997 is a 2010 car, it feels small,
so much smaller inside, the gear change is slow (until it's warmed up), and
that clutch is heavy..but, hang on, that's great because it does have a clutch !.
Then, you press on...and omg, I hadn't realised until today what I've been
missing out on.....

The car has 'huge heart and soul'...the steering is alive, so alive that you feel
every imperfection in the road surface, and the noise is so very raw, the
exhaust note sounds louder (as the car has less sound proofing). The levels of
refinement you have in the newer car, just aren't there in the 997, but you
know what ?, it really doesn't matter a jot.

All of this really does make the 991 feel a bit 'antiseptic' when you compare
the two back to back.
The 991 might be a lot more capable, but I have no doubt that the 997 is the
fun car because it will only give you what you put into it....it's just awesome.
:bye:

Nick,

You have some amazing cars! I guess this will give you a pretty unique perspective on the Gt variants on offer 3, 4, RS etc..

My question is....

If you could only have 1 car and keep forever, which one and why?

My 997 GT3 RS gen 2....it's got it all. It still looks great and it's small in
comparison to the 991. It has a clutch, it's therefore more interactive, and
most importantly, it's hugely rewarding to extract a great lap out of it. And
lastly, it has enormous heart and soul...the new models quite simply are a bit
devoid of this.... :thumb:

Ps thanks for your kind words !

That would have been my choice!

Have you ever driven or considered the 4.0l RS?

I downloaded a short film on the 50 years of 911. Chaps on the film tested all the evolutions from 901 to 991 "back to back". They left the 997 gt3 4.0l RS until last. Both journalists agreed that this was the ultimate 911!

I had one on order in 2011....but being third on the list was never going to
work...

Darn it!

Not to shabby settling for the 3.8!!

Just wish I had similar problems!

I did send a letter of intent for a 991.2 GT3. I knew my chances were slim to remote, due to my spend history with dealer. After finding out that you were 3rd in the list I have now realised that I wasted a sheet of A4 and the cost of a stamp!
