Hi all,

So basically I have a intermittent starting issue that's been going on 2 years. The issue is detailed here for anybody interested

http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=109673&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

It's now not started for 10 days, and is stuck in my underground car park so quite tricky to get it towed. Wondered if anybody knew a good mobile mechanic in the Manchester area?

The legend that is Demort suspects it to be a fuel pressure problem, I've also invested in a set of noid lights but could do with some help testing the fuel injector as it looks like it requires moving some stuff around.

Many thanks in advance!

If you have breakdown cover with 'Home Start' you can call them out and they will trailer it to a specialist.

I cant see this as something that comes under a mobile fix and probably requires workshop facilities.

Underground car parks still have vehicles recovered and it will be the breakdown company's challenge how to get it recovered to a specialist.

I can recommend Mike at Sports & Classic between Macclesfield and Chelford behind Mereside Motors. Might be worth giving him a call.

If you don't have a breakdown product with home start, you could take out a new policy and use it after the two week exclusion period or whatever they have to stop people signing up only when they breakdown.

Performance Porsche in Brighouse do trailered collection & delivery for £60 (it was to me). Speak to Andy for a diagnosis as he might have some ideas and can sort you out :thumb:

Where are you in Manchester? Where is the car?
Tony Greatorex has a good rep, might come out to the car.

Castlefield, just outside the city centre. It's in my underground car park, with a U-turn bend and couple of small slopes to get out, which is likely a bit problematic for towing.

I've probably got someone to come round next week, from R&D in Eccles, but the sooner I can get someone the better. Worried the battery will die, it's basically been 2 weeks now. I'll give Tony a ring tomorrow :thumb:

Thanks for your help in both threads Lockheed

See my comments above for logistical problems with getting it out of underground car park. But thanks, I'll certainly give Andy a call tomorrow and see what he says. It's actually been to another Brighouse garage in the past, Revolution Porsche, but I wasn't aware of PP. :thumb:

Thanks Cheshire.

Looking hopeful that I can get a mobile mechanic out next week, the guy from R&D in Eccles claims to have some diagnostic tools and can obv help me test the injectors with the noid lights that I bought , and alsobridge the fuel pump relay (something Demort suggested in the other thread, in 997 forum)

I get that it's going to have a much better chance in a workshop though. I've actually taken it to Mike @ Sports and Classic a couple of times. I had it recovered there a year or so ago, but by the time he looked at it a couple days later it started straight away for him! The same thing happened for Russ at Reveloution Porsche. Been almost 2 weeks without starting this time though...

Well your car has been in good hands with both Mike at S&C and Russ at Revolution.

No idea about Performance Porsche ( I think that's Richard Ilands outfit but could be mistaken).

Hope your mobile guy can sort it for you.

Thanks Cheshire. Just to update you all, I've had my local garage check the injectors and charge the battery for me (which had pretty much died as car not moved for 2 weeks)

He recommended R&D motors in Eccles (Manchester) which I hadn't heard of but seem to be performance car specialists. Looking unlikely they can come out this week, but probably next. On the phone he suggested checking the fuel pressure by unscrewing the black plastic cap of tyre valve and prodding something with a screwdrive? Not too sure haha. Will ask local mechanic about that when he comes round later to refit the battery that he's charged

Just a thought, when was your fuel filter last changed?

Don't actually know the answer to this, but it had a full service this summer

Another update:

I got the car started last night finally; The night before that, my local mechanic helped me test the injectors, which were fine, but found the battery to be almost dead. He took it out and charged it over night, and refitted it last night.

The car started first time! However, there were a few weird things like the engine not sounding quite right (misfiring he reckoned) and when I took it for a short drive, there was a faint scratchy whirring noise, and the fan in the drivers side wheel arch.

I've since taken it to R&D garage in Eccles, a sports car specialist recommended by someone on here, who ran his diagnostics on it. The main thing that came up was that, predictably, my front left fan had gone, meaning the driver's side was over compensating. Getting that fixed next week Unrelated to the starting problem though, I'm guessing, I've never heard my right fan go mental like that before so the left one must have recently gone.

Basically, gave it a clean bill of health. Tested the battery, but couldn't rule out a drain on it without a more time-consuming test. I've never gone more than 2 weeks without using the car, so surely there must be some kind of drain? He seemed happy with it though, and said I should be able to sell it with a clear conscience.

Thanks again for all of the help on here...but I STILL have a feeling we haven't seen the end of this, given what's happened in the past :D
