Hello I have decide to sell my 964, the car is a lovely car and in very nice condition and always gets nice attention from other motorist. The Grand Prix White paintwork is stunning for her age and is dent and scratch free and very straight, there is a minor inperfection on one of the wings.

She has a clean dark blue almost black leather interior and again very clean.

The main bad point is many years ago around 9 years, she was classed as a cat c. I have had her checked around all the vital areas for any aspect of damage and none could be found.

Also around that period 964 were not to expensive and were easier to write off. There are many 964 on the road today which have sustained damage and were repaired not via the Insurance companies, which are being sold for a high value. With mine it has a cat c and it will reflect my asking price.

She just went for a mot the other week and came back with no advisories, looking through the mot history she has been mainly used as a summer car and not doing much millage in the last 4 to 5 years. She drives very nice and pulls through each gear.

I do realise the cat c will have a effect on her value and might put certain people off, but I am also not looking for the 30k or 40k that I have seen similar cars advertised for.

Just a fair price and a hastle free sale, you are welcome to pop down and I can take you out for a drive and go through any nigly points, but please do not message me or call me to waste each others time to state the fact that she is a cat c.

(For some reason it will not let me upload pictures, I will try again later)

Thanks

Wouldn't labour the Cat C thing as much and go with something along the lines of 'Cat C registered almost 10-years ago, photographs of repair and receipts available'. Talk mostly about all the good stuff; lack of rust, full service history with all the dates listed, any major work and worn out part replacement such as the suspension.

GLWTS

Firstly it's a Cat C so you need to apply the 2/3rds 1/3rd rule. What is the value of a similar condition car non cat? Yours is then around 2/3rds of that value.

Too much verbiage as buyers still want facts about service history engine work etc. As some MOT centres employ Roy Orbison examiners so no advisories doesn't always cut it. These may be in your ad but I can't see as it hasn't gone up yet. Equally I don't know what model I'm looking at whether the elusive C2 coupe, C4 or a C2 cab with a tipronic gearbox :what: and what the mileage is.

The wing. You've now mentioned a defect that every buyer is going to home in on so be prepared to have your pants lowered for a spanking on value of £1k+ even if we're talking £250 to sort. In which case why not do it? :what: Scuttle repair and usual corrosion places sorted?

Bottom line purists won't touch it and unless you price it right it will be easier shaking off Ebola than moving it on for top money :thumb:

As said above. Cat C rules out most buyers for this type of car. Someone who is going to use it a lot may not be bothered if they get a bargain.

I'm sure you got a bargain when you bought it and you say you don't expect anything like the going rate for a non-story car so you should find a buyer.

I take it you don't have pics of the damage? As you say you had a garage check everywhere. That adds a lot more mystery to what the car had done.
Generally cat C is a hard hit, although I've seen some bad cat Ds.

As you say it's still a nice car but you've mentioned cat C in 4 of your 8 paragraphs so you know it's a big thing. Don't protest too much. ;)
If the price is right then that type of buyer will have their interest piqued, the majority will click off anyway when they see the cat C part.

I'm considering changing my 996 for another 964 but I'm going to wait til after Brexit as I'm happy with the 996 and bar the looks is a better car, but I think the market has topped out now too so I wouldn't be buying a top price one as I think they're at best going to stop rising.
I must admit though even I wouldn't consider a cat car without pics, even though I've run one or two in the past. Only daily bangers though, not my good stuff.

It will all come down to pricing it right. Someone will want it.

When I was looking for another aircooled 911 I came across a 993 S, Iris blue, massive spoiler (which I would of removed), low mileage at 50k-ish thousand but Cat C. I considered it twice and during my due diligence discovered it was Cat C, and then some time later also a Cat D. Owner didn't know what had happened as it was prior to his ownership and claimed the first was simply stolen recovered with no damage (a Cat C?!) and the second simply a front wing (in order to be written off as a Cat D?!). However, he did have a letter from his local OPC saying they had looked around the car and could not see any visible signs of damage. We couldn't agree on worth albeit we we not far away. It recently went up on here and PH for £47k and had a deposit on it within a week so I have to say the seller probably was more right about the value than me.

For me, it came down to some evidence of the repairs for which there was none, however not everyone will be put off. A decent 50k-ish mile 993 S is probably around £75k which makes mid-forties a decent buy providing it checks out and drives straight. The 964 is a popular car now and many want to make them into RS type replicas, or at least along those lines, so for some the car may well be stripped down anyway.

964 convertible

If you look at RPR626.co.uk he has had a 964 for sale for months and months. Lovely car in Guards with black leather and only 78000 miles from a Porsche specialist at £36995. If this isn't selling it is because it is too expensive so lets say to sell it would be nearer £30k which probably makes yours worth around £20k. How much are you wanting for it?
