The Silver Bullet-Resto Project

So spent the weekend giving the interior a shampoo and set, came out not to bad at all just need a nice set of velour mats to finish it of ( any recommendations autostyle etc ?) Now the passenger seat has a couple of small tears that pretty sure a smart repairer will deal with the drivers seat however is completely foobarred and think I will need to hunt down a replacement the S has black pinstripe cloth rather than velour so will also need to source some of that.

Intend to get one of the leather dash covers and gearstick gaitor from the company on Ebay that Ian got for his 964 also going to re-trim the steering wheel which should make the interior a nice place to be.

now while browsing the opc restoration completion I came across this little baby now I think the old viper/signal green has been done to death however it does look very nice mmmm :chin: :chin:

So got stuck in to some of the oily bits all came apart without too much grief the pass side wheel bearing was shot as I expected which has also damaged the stub slightly ( get another one ?) pretty sure the drivers side bearing has been changed no boot or bump stop on the drivers shock.

Speedo cable is in the Passenger side hub not sure how this comes out will have a read tonight

slight wear to the end of the arb where the bush was shot think I will build this back up with some ready metal clean up and paint. Not sure whether to blast and coat the wishbone arms or replace with new as they are relatively cheap

Caliper refurb first job on the list

The guy at Werk924 can get most of the interior fabrics very reasonably - especially when compared to what Southbound Trimmers charge!

Cheers for that Eldavo will give hinm a try :thumb:

so figured out why the speedo wasn't working no end on the speedo cable ! managed to get it out of the spindle so just the non working rev counter to sort out anyone any pointers where to start with it ?

So got the callipers stripped down and all in good condition so will be blasted/coated then re-sealed its the small things that add up a pin and spring kit is near £50 the spring that holds the cylinder is £25 I am waiting to hear about a couple alternative suppliers.

Also removed the brackets from the ARB which promptly crumbled in front of my eyes so need a couple of them bushings were slightly past their best  will be fitting poly anyone know the size of the bushes ?

Stripped one of the struts to get the top mount off I could push the damper in with one finger and it stayed put , managed to pick up a brand new spindle/hub for £20 which was a result pity it wasn't for the side that's damaged :D however have another one on the way so both will be changed.

Also had a look at the interior light switches at the weekend wiring is all fine both switches are tempremental so will try and give them a tickle.

so a bit of progress and parts list getting bigger.

Might be worth trying to find out if any of the parts you need are the same as golf/sirocco, bet there a bit cheaper?

Keep up the good work, I'll be doing all this soon when I've sold the 928

Yip I`ve tried some of the VW parts and also Audi 100, I am keeping a note of the various suppliers and prices so just ask when you need some info.

A good thread here from Roger the "Wheel Restorer" with a nice build didn't realise you could use the later trailing arms however they are a lot of money to replace the ball joint unlike the new trailing arms from OPIE at £17.00 !

http://924srr27l.co.uk/exterior-bodywork/

Also been looking at both the GAZ kit GHA397 and the Spax RSR kits both the same price £550 approx. not sure which ones are the better buy ?

So still looking at suspension options the two coilover kits would appear to have quite stiff springs which is not really what I'm after .What I am after is an adjustable spring perch with a sport damper and either standard or lowered springs however the market doesn't seem to cater for this as replacing the insert and having to clean up your old strut would appear to be whats on offer a bit more hunting to do.

So a few parcels have arrived new stub axle and some ball joint and 4 bigger packages :D now I got these at a bargain price of £135 :thumb: so I am going to stick some 50 series tyres on and see how they look and feel ( I appreciate the 17 may not suit sorry Paul  ) they are 7 x 17

That's a bargain! What coilovers have you dismissed, I'll be doing the same soon.

Ian its the Spax and Gaz ones mentioned above not dismissed them yet however it depends what your after I`m not looking to get the suspension too firm however would like to have height adjustment will let you know what I find out here`s a link to the chat Ive been having with Roger over on Rennlist who has had a few front engine through his hands.

http://rennlist.com/forums/924-924s-and-931-forum/951662-the-silver-bullet-resto-project.html

or I could wait until you fit them and come and give them a try :D before I buy

You managed to move the 928 on yet ?

Nightmare selling cars mate, had interest but no ones been out to see it yet. I think I'm being to honest telling people the cruse control and air conditioning don't work and it has a small oil leak from the right hand cam, no big deal considering the cars mint in ever other respect. Even had people wanting to know if it's got N rated tires on FFS!
Just need one guy who's actually serious about buying on and it'll sell no problem, only other S2 manual is up for 30k!! Makes mine look like a bargain!

Gaz, can you get adjustable shocks for the back or are they all fixed? All the ones I've seen aren't adjustable so I can't see the point in putting coilovers on the front? What about buying inserts for £50 each and 30mm lowering springs then dropping the rear by 30mm on the Spring plate?

Saying that it would cost £200 for inserts for the front and shocks for the rear then lowering springs would be about £100 then you would have to clean up the old legs to take the inserts, probably better off spending £500 on a set of spax.

Just read the link, your having all the same thoughts I'm having lol
