So I purchased this a couple of years ago and last year done all the conversion to euro specs etc. I was really worried about driving it in the UK because of the salt etc. The car was restored, body paint was really good, interior all done and engine and transmission all rebuilt. With just under 42k miles it was really nice. Full matching numbers, COA, and full history folder.
But this thing about driving it was winding me up.
Whilst the the underneath looked good, it was covered in a black stipple covered material. We found a couple of places that looked suspect. That was it - no point in having a car to look at imo but at the same time know what salt and road grime does to these.
So so had a chat with Porsche. They suggested removing all the black stipple and having a real look at what was there. So we took the engine, transmission and fuel tank out - 3 hours the lot - these cars are so simple back then. Put it on a trailer and off to Porsche.
Get a a call from them a week later. Would you like to pop round and discuss
This is car was only ever going to Porsche body shop - it is a perfect car in every way with low mileage , folder of receipts etc , matching numbers etc.
So shown around what they found - bodywork itself and paint was fine - but the floor had been repaired in four places and the front section had also been repaired. It could be repaired properly but it would always be a repair. Mmmm didn't want that.
So on the phone to Porsche to see if by any chance we could get an original floor for it and to my amazement after a call to Germany they found one.
In the end Porsche quoted me 300 hours to replace the entire floor. It has been painted how it left the factory but has have a modern layer underneath to add the correct protection. I asked would I be able to drive it all year around and the answer was yes - they are giving me a full warranty on the job. The new finish will give me that reassurance.
These jobs could be done cheaper but I think there is good long term value in it being done by Porsche and most important I won't be worried about it.
Anyway fast forward to last month and it is all done. Thankfully I took a fixed price on the job - let's just say the work involved was more than anticipated. Now to get the interior back, engine and transmission and enjoy.
Here are 493 pics - you would never have guessed the hidden issues underneath.
