Not the nasty Alpine head unit lol
The item on the left is held in place with a velcro pad and has a cable running to it, maybe its a microphone?
The one on the right, is it factory or aftermarket?

The one on the left looks like a mic which means there was/is a blue tooth link in it probably connected to a mobridge or navtv unit or maybe just a parrot device. the one on the right looks like a traffic master switch which you would have paid a subscription for back in the day , unsure if they are still around or in that format, lots of cars around year 2000 were fitted with it often by the main dealers but its not OE Porsche per-se. hope that helps. :thumb:

thanks both, appreciated

part 2
Rather than keep starting new threads and cluttering up the forum:
The round buttons on the side of the seats dont seem to do anything and the handbook doesnt show the same switch

It has heated seats with the switches on the centre console near the arm rest
Ill have to see if this is some form of high / low setting although I thought that the high / low was achieved by one or two presses of the OE switch??

Some cheapskate has probably added non-OEM when the original pads died

Well .. it looks like an aftermarket heated seat setup to me .. high low settings are switch left or switch right .. As GT4 said .. it might be fitted as original stopped working .. try the original switch .. does it work ?

If you use this button then does anything happen .. ie seats get warm ?

Original was press for red and press again for yellow .. thats high or low.

There should also be a similar switch on the passenger side
