Having just taken ownership of my first Porsche I thought I start a diary thread for reference and information.
Like many it's taken me a long time to get to this point having spent over a year weighing it all up and sourcing a car I was happy with.

With all the doom and gloom about the well known issues at times it would of been easy to forget it all and I don't know how many hours I've spent reading up the pitfalls but in the end I just took the view " sod it I'm having one"
Having covered all the pre purchase recommendations my hard earned was handed over Thursday night and I drove home feeling a tad nervous but with a huge grin.

So here we are aged 51 a very pleased and proud owner of my first ever Porsche and it's a lovely 997 Carrera 2s manual in Arctic silver :D

A little more detail about the car/spec etc to follow but right now I'm off for a drive.

Nice one KJD.

We love diary threads, especially those with lots of pics.

Kevin, I think your right to not worry about the doom stuff if we listened to it all we would be frightened to leave our homes ever.
Enjoy the car make sure you service it and do all the recommended but not expensive things, don't leave it 2 years 20k before an oil change etc etc. and just have some fun.

As Phil said, regular oil changes. Treat it right ie warm it up and a bit of mechanical sympathy and it should be fine. Enjoy driving the thing.

Clean looking car btw- I'm on my first Porsche and love it!! 👍

Fab. Looks to me from the above like you've nailed what having a 997 is all about. Health to use fella and I'm looking forward to the diary.

Thanks everyone, been getting to know the car a little today dispite the rotten weather and spent a considerable amount of time reading the owners manual as lots of little things to take note of.

One of the attractions of this car was its service and maintenance history being full OPC apart from the last main service just carried out by a local Indy.
The cars not done big miles just 26k but has been generally serviced annually which is no bad thing and I'll be carrying on with that approach with at least an annual oil change inbetween it's minor and major schedule.
The car came with all the invoices in a neat folder which is a lovely thing to have and ties in nicely with all the owners manuals etc. Luckily for me the previous two owners were meticulous so everything as you would hope for.

The warming up and cooling down process is something I've always done anyway so I'll carry on with that also.

Tomorrow I'll be getting all close and personal and giving it a clean, it was pristine when I picked it up but after all this rain it's looking a bit sorry now.

I feel incredibly lucky and privileged to own this car, they really are amazing things

ADW will have checked it out throughly too so no worries there. Lovely looking car I'm sure you'll get loads of enjoyment from

That's reassuring to know.

ADW were nothing short of brilliant to deal with. I'm a really fussy person hence probably why it took me so long to find a car I was 100% happy with.
They really did come across as enthusiastic people who care about what they do.

Amazing place and collection of cars.

Hi KJD

Great car, my first 997 was the same year and colour. Love your wheels, suits the 997.
A few things I had replaced included the exhaust bolts replaced with stainless items.

Visit Monmouthshire monthly on business, Raglan & Usk. Are you far away?

Hi KJD, Lovely car and I'm a fellow south Welshman. I get my 997 serviced with Chris denning in Cardiff just for future reference for you.

Ex Porsche centre mechanic and knows his onions. Top bloke too :thumb:

Good luck and enjoyment with a fantastic car 8)

Lovely car, enjoy it :thumb:

Thank you both :thumb:

I've spoken to Chris a few times when I started looking last year and he seems a very knowledgeable bloke so he's an option for me as relatively local.
Thanks for the heads up Alfiain I will give him a call again soon.

My plan is you use the same specialist, build a relationship so he gets to know the car and I get to know him.

I've not had a chance to do anything with the car today I just ran out of time but I'll get some details and spec posted up on the car as soon as I can.

Time to get all personal and close up with the 911 so gave it a good clean as it was raining when we picked it up Thursday and Saturday.
Totally different car to get around than the previous Type R easier in some areas harder in others.
The 19" sport design wheels although stunning are are a mare to clean and I now need to source a wheel brush to cope with the 11.5 x 19 rears !
Just time to catch a few pictures before lights out .
I'm still pinching myself !
