Hi, I am new to forum and was looking for some advice, info and past experiences of buying a GT3.
I have never had the pleasure of owning a Porsche, although it has always been my dream car and now I am nearing 40 I have decided that now is a good time to look at getting a Porsche.
For me as many I am sure the GT3 RS has to be the ultimate one to have but I am looking at getting a GT3, ideally i would love to buy the next generation GT3 if and when it comes out next year but speaking to a few people and pretty much getting told by the nearest dealer to me I have no chance.....what is the likely hood of obtaining one of these cars? will my thoughts remain a dream?
thank you in advance, Sean.

My thoughts are that at market rate you won't be able to buy a GT car from Porsche, there were pretty much 100 deposits taken for every car available and everyone was offering over list pretty much straight away.

I have a friend that managed to get into a GT4 but he was changing between 911's almost bi-monthly buying factory new cars before he even got close to any kind of GT car. It's sad really the GT cars are a bit like a lot of other "special" marks and you pretty much have to be selected to get into one unless you want to buy from somebody who bought with the sole reason of flipping it.

I don't own a GT car and have never tried to buy one but this is what I was told about his mission to get into a GT4, somebody might come along and put me straight but this is pretty much how I understand it is these days with GT cars.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

My advice would be get your name down at several dealerships anyway, cant do any harm and for all you know they will make a load of them, its a ways off yet. At least then Porsche will have an idea of the real demand

Be sure its a GT3 you want, not for everyone..a great car when you are on it or tracking, sometimes a belligerent sod.

Then, if you have the money buy a 996 or a 997 (997.1 is probably the modern classic bargain right now) and take some time to enjoy learning what Gt cars are all about, worst case you can sell it if and when a 991 shows up or even keep it as it's probably a better steer anyway... :p

10/1 you next thread will be clubsport or comfort.

Thanks for your replies guys.

I have my name down in one dealership but the salmons seemed fair and honest with me about the GT cars but you never know your luck.
I had a similar thing with a far lesser mark than porsche but i was fortunate enough to get a limited car from them, hoping I can be lucky twice!
I feel it really needs to be a GT3, i was at the ring a few years back and feel in love with them and would love the opportunity to be able to spec one to what I want, it may be the only opportunity I have to own a car like this.
i was going to call a couple of dealers but unsure how they would deal with me over the phone opposed to face to face but i guess its worth a shot.

As has been mentioned already, sending in a letter is key. However, the old
fashioned 'letter of intent' is now pretty much dead and buried. I have it as
you might say from 'the horse's mouth' that at my OPC, the Dealer Principal
chooses who gets what allocation for the 'specials'.
The only way you can guarantee getting whatever your heart desires from the
Porsche range, would be if you had gone onto the VIP programme. That little
gem was thought up by the marketing department when they were struggling
to sell enough 918's....in the face of the P1 and La Ferrari being around at the
same time.
The caveat to being allowed this 'queue jumper ticket' for a full ten years, is
that you still need to be its owner for 36 months !. If the production run of
the car you wanted was 500 or less you can only get to excise this option just
the once per model....and if they all wanted one, then it's on a first come first
basis !. So, all in all...this is why it's so very hard to get a GT car...as well as
the fact that with the invention of PDK...the market has grown so very much,
and demand vastly exceeds supply .....

But hey, good luck !...and when you do get one you'll just love it. :thumb:

Thank you for the info Nick, it is appreciated.

Certainly looking like a game of luck, sad thing is all i seem to be thinking about is getting one of these cars, as much as i love looking at other top marque cars it has always been the Porsche that has done it for me, and now i find myself in the fortunate position to afford one, maybe not so much with the premiums that are getting put on new cars!!

its understandable that previous owners and customers will get the opportunity of these cars first, its just the ones the go to speculators that seem a little unfair, but hey thats how life is at times!! failing in getting the next generation i always have the option of a gen 1 car, as I said it just would have been good to spec the car to how i want....
