The sad sad time has come when there is the possibility that my lovely Porsche might have to be sold :sad: :sad: :sad:
The problem is that I cannot find a consistent idea for a price. When I scan through websites the prices can vary by £50,000!! I know the top prices are a bit optimistic but I don't want to end up selling it at less that it's worth just because I need the money.
It is a 1980 Porsche 911 Targa SC. It has a complete engine rebuild, all new heat exchangers, new clutch, new interior carpets and generally in good original condition. Any ideas??

A few pictures would help.

You don't say where you are based but you'd probably get a better indication of value by taking it in to a couple of Porsche Specialists and asking them what they'd give you for it and/or asking what they'd advertise it for if they were selling it on a SoR basis.

Good Luck :thumb:

Hello Allan
Take off the aftermarket porsche stripe, body colour those teardrops (which are 964 and not really acceptable on this shape) I'd revert to flags, lose the tacky boy racer badges on the headrests and get rid of that aerial before even considering selling it for top money.

With a tail wind you may get up to £20k.Ask on DDK.

You haven't mentioned the condition of body/chassis as that's usually the money ball - ultra low or ultra high mileage has a huge impact on price too. A full proper rebuild at a known specialist can be over 15k so worth dropping names & invoice value if indeed that's what you had done and when it was done.

That's where I see it. Possibly 25 bags if turned back to original spec, good history, minimal rot and everything works. Tartan interior (if genuine pattern) is a plus :thumb:

I am exhausted with looking, driving miles to see stuff that is way overpriced, with hidden rust etc, and big oil leaks, when you point it out, its just a barrage of ***** that comes back at you, so many cars have had a quick blow over to cash in on the price bubble. I was well keen on one the other day and nearly did a big 200mile round trip until I managed to prise the cat c status out of the owner who said he dident know what that was.

A clean straight car correctly priced, never hangs around for long.

If you want a good price for your car avoid auctions, people want bargains on there.

I cant help you as I want a coupe.

good luck.

Palladium, there is an 85 green coupe that's up for sale for 35k, seems sorted but high miles.

On face value it looks in good condition. However that's not enough here to go on. Mileage, history, what work has been done, is it original paint, if not what work was done?

Agree get it back to standard. Those stripes are very personal things and I'd imagine most won't like them. Don't take it personally, I'm not insulting the car just giving best advice for a sale

There are loads of [expensive] air cooled motors doing the rounds but few really good ones about for the money being demanded. I had a look at an SC last week near Warrington with a view to buying it. It was champagne in colour and looked great but underneath it was like a tea bag.

Without doubt many old-timers are getting tarted-up to look great before getting punted and I can imagine some people ending up with a dog if they don't take a lot of care when buying.

Some of these oldies are costing upwards of £20/30k to make nice/put right so buyers beware....although the odd gem is still out there.

The reason good ones are priced high is that the cost of rebuilding is so high ... Here is the menu;

Full engine rebuild = 15-20k
Top end refresh = 4-7k
Respray = 3-5k
Rust remedy = 5-10k
Interior = 5-8k
Suspension refresh = 2k
Oil lines = 2-3k
Brakes refresh = 1k
Electrical gremlins ......
CIS & AFM gremlins .....

Unfortunately cars that need some work aren't priced accordingly unless they figure you buy stuff from scrapyard and fix it yourself.
