A bit of advice - selling my barely used winter tyres

Hi Guys,

I'm after a bit of direction. I bought some winter tyres for my 991 S cab in December. Used them for 100 miles or so then was persuaded by the Porsche salesman to buy a new 991 GTS. Since the GTS has centre locking wheel nuts & only Porsche can change them at a price of £250 (ouch!), I've decided to sell the winter tyres.

They are Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 N0 rated tyres. Could any of you point me to a site where I might be able to sell them easily?

Cheers, Alex

Untrue. You are safe to use the better independent Porsche specialists or to do it yourself as long as you have the tools and know the procedure. It is just that you can't safely use generic repair shops and tyre fitters as they tend not to have anything that can remove and re-torque to 600Nm. You will need either a fairly serious torque multiplier or an industrial torque wrench though (the kind of gear that is expensive enough that you will want to shop for a used one is best).

If you want to swap tyres on the same rims you are best advised to put the car up on axle stands, unmount them yourself and take the wheels and tyres to a fitter. Obviously the better solution would be to hit eBay and try and get an extra set of wheels for an amount of money less insane than Porsche will ask. Even the 'bay will call for £2500-4k+ for a set of what you need though.

To be honest - eBay is probably the best option (I have obtained the last 2 sets of winter wheels that I have bought from there).

Personally I would buy a spare set of alloys and fit your winters to them ?

You've obviously just bought the GTS and plan keeping it for a while.
at least with the winters you can use car in colder weather assuming you plan on using all year round and not tucking it away like some

There is more initial cash outlay , but in future, sell the spare set and recoup half the cost back at least ?

That's what I'm doing ... New genuine alloys and winters this Saturday :thumb:

Whilst the summers are off, they can be cleaned up/ refurbed
