Re: 991 GTS 4 Winter Tyres--

20" Cenertlock Wheel. Question is to go down a size or not when changing out for Winter? :?:

It really comes down to what the vehicle has approved for the winter fitment

A lot of GT models have centre lock wheels.. and the winter tyre options are slightly different to the Summer tyre (Cup2) sizes.. so you shouldn't have to change wheels, but you might need to go with a slightly different size

Have a look in the handbook, it will tell you the winter fitment (or on the Pressure sticker)

OK51MON[/b]]Guys,

Can anyone aware me on the what are the Porsche recommended Tyres to buy for a 996 Turbo ? and where I can buy them for the cheapest!?

I did read that you should buy Porsche recommended as the 4 wheel drive system won't function properly.

Si

Si..

Your fronts are 225/40-18 & rears 295/30-18
So you've no shortage of choices, and really as I never buy tyres myself.. one perk of the job.. I can't say go here or go there.
There are plenty of retail outlets, and loads of online specialists and mobile fitting services too, so it's a more diverse market than ever before.
We do have an offer at the moment through some Michelin dealers, that would give you a discount, but shop around..

Bear in mind, fitting tyres on your nice alloys is best done by a reputable place.. so feel confident that your car and wheels will come back in the right condition.. don't try and save the last £5 for a load of hassle

Hi, Please can you let me know the depth of tread on Cup2s? (I've tried Google but can find it anywhere...)
Thanks.

Thanks.

It's around 5mm depending on the exact spec
The old cup+ were closer to 4mm
I can give you the exact number if you tell me the size
:D

Thanks,
235/35/19 & 305/30/19 N0
I'm trying to gauge how far worn mine are, they seem to be wearing much better than Cups (should have remembered to measure the tread when they were fitted!)

Hi
Based on my data those 19" ones are 5.4 mm new
Bear in mind wear isn't totally linear but I'm sure you can work it out based upon what remains
Jamie

Ok thanks Jamie, the wear is fantastic then - I've done 4,000 of fast road & (slow :D ) track miles & they're at around 4.7mm - wow!

tp81[/b]]Is anyone able to offer advice on the best all round tyres for RS speedline (18") wheels on a 1995 993 RS ?

Doing a quick search I found a thread saying to stay away from Pirelli tyres for the car, the most obvious choice so far seems to be Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

I would be very appreciative of any strong views on this.

I'm sorry I hadn't replied on this as I felt it was more a comment for other owners to reply with. Obviously the 225/40-18 and 265/35-18 Pilot Sport 2 N's will work very well, but we will have a Pilot Sport 4 option available (in Non "N") from 2016

Your other option, and one I would recommend especially if you drive on Track is Pilot Sport Cup2, again non "N" but developed to work specifically for older Porsches

As you may have read elsewhere in this thread, and maybe I'm over cautious, I would recommend sticking to "N" rated tyres for four wheel drive models.
As I don't buy my own tyres.. (perk) all I can say is shop around..
