Note to Moderators - perhaps this should be a sticky in the NEWBIE section of the forum or FAQs as well as the Buying Advice section. Many of the terms are used in threads after a newbie has bought and found their way to the forum so wouldn't necessariy look in the 'Buying advice ...range comparison section'. Just a suggerstion since I didn't find the original thread when I was looking - but maybe that's just my incompetence.
