Hello all, wondered if someone could give some guidance. Thinking of buying my first 964 and have found a model with the following problems. Trying to understand if these are easily fixable and will not come back, or are part of the 964 owners experience and will always be a problem. The car has done 145k and had a top end rebuild in August 2014.

Both lower cam covers leaking oil
Oil cooler leaking oil
Oil leak from front pulley seal area
Oil leak from R/H chain cover
Slight oil leak from front diff

Morning chum :thumb: Those issues sound like typical problems that can be easily sorted. I'm surpirsed though if it had a top end rebuild last year these problems still exist :dont know: Who did the rebuild?

Take a look at the stickys at the top of the 964 page to get an idea of how these cars can be sorted and what to look for :what:

Thanks for a prompt response.

One option is to go back to the specialist who did the work and ask him to put it right? I did talk to him on the phone and he did say that he requested that the previous owner (who had the rebuild) bring it back to him. Don't want to name and shame since he may well have done an ok job.

That's where I'd start. Again with these cars its all about condition and less so of how many miles on the clock.

Why would someone have a top end rebuild done in August and now want to offload it? Could be lots of genuine reasons but I'd want to be sure and have the car inspected if you are paying good (£25k+) money. Decent cars now start at £30k and can easily fetch £45k - which a C4 did a few weeks back

 Hold the front page - 1989 C2 in Baltic Blue with 128k on the market for £31,500 a chum is brokering it. I've driven it and it's as sweet as a nut :thumb:

Not perfect but easily sorted for what will be a £40k car. PM me for details

Good advice from Zingari, given the cost of 964's these days, the small problems you describe can be used as a leverage to reduce the purchasing price, personally I'd advise a PPI unless you're particularly clued up on the common problems with classic 911's, there's more than a few pitfalls which can easily be overlooked unless you know specifically what to look for.

Heads up!

I've just seen a grey, G reg. 964 cabriolet in the preparation area of Classic Chrome in Mortlake. I've not seen it there before. Although it could be 'old' stock, on the other hand, it could be just in.

ETA: I can't see it featured during a quick check of their website.
