Buying 996 Turbo - few queries for experienced owners

Just done a simple HPI and comes up clear. Clear as in not scrapped, not imported, etc... seller did mention though than it was originally imported from Germany, but i kinda thought their all imported from the place their built?

But all in all, HPI clear.

good point made about the aero spoiler and possible front end damage...

I made contact with the seller about this car last week, was going well until he said:

'hope you not want me to take car to nearest porsche centre as the car is sold as seen'

needless to say I left it at that....

Oh really? Thats interesting. I guess there maybe some anxiety about having a PPI on it too then. I might test the water and see how i get on.

Found a PPI (via google) DEKRA costs only £275 for PPI. seems pretty generic and not necessarily Porsche focused. Is there a general requirement to only use Porsche experienced PPI specialists?

I'd go Porsche ONLY :judge:

I had this once, told the seller that if he didn't then no sale, left it up to him. He went in the end of course :)

People are not against the inspection, they are wary of you or I knocking off thousands due to the results of the inspection

Must be an OPC up near him. If the guy wants to sell the car then he will go

TT

Re PPi, I think it would be wise to use one of the many Porsche specialists in Scotland.

The two I know of as they looked after the 993 S that I've just sold were :-

George Morrison Ltd - Glasgow 0141 6431768
Motortune Shotts Porsche - 01501 822247

Not sure on the logistics though ? Peter Morgan inspections visit the car at the owners place but not sure on costs.

Thanks for the tips fellas, but cant find anyone who either travel to site or are close enough.

Anybody else know of any recommended PPI people out there who travel??

cheers

My 2p would be :

Fronta aero is nothing to be concerned about, its often owner choice.
My car has standard splitter but i will be fitting aero soon.

Work on this assumption at that price if its still available it may have been back heeled by all the dealers

I am sure surry hills cars would have it in their showroom already if they wanted it.

or it may just be a bargain, who knows.

Well here goes I might be the only one on here to dissuade you from buying it! It does look to me as it's been messed with a lot if the interior is as worn as you say I'd say it's done more miles than is on the clock, along with the other issues Id be very wary. DO NOT BUY IT WITHOUT PPI! If you buy it and find later it needs lots of work doing on it, it could run up to £7000. So adding that to that price would get you a better car in my opinion. Iv had mine for 12 months and love it & it's gone up in value so the maintenance iv done has cost nothing! Alternately PPI it if it shows up some bad points go in with a really low offer if you get it and are mechanically minded you can do sooo much yourself and turn it into a really decent car

One look at the ad should tell you that the car is dodgy - it is way under market value and no details - advice would be leave well alone

It's funny how different folk have such varying thoughts. The seat bolster is what I'd expect for a 76k car, and is easily repaired back to as new condition. The car looks OK, the ad is terrible as are the pics, so leads to all the negative thoughts. I'd want to know what has been replaced over the past 5 years and carefully review the servicing. If it's spent its entire life in Scotland, look out for rust underneath, Scottish dealers buy used cars as far south as they can for a reason.
It bothers me that the owner hasn't bothered getting all the niggles fixed prior to sale, it smells of what else has been neglected? It could be a genuine car being sold by a lazy owner, or it could be an absolute hound with a huge bill just about to land, and the owner knows it. He's selling it cheaply, so don't expect cooperation, I'd take a punt at £22k and if it needed £7k spending, it'd still be a decent buy. Let us know what the outcome is.

I sold my 996T by SoR for exactly the reason hilited above.

It seems that most buyers now go in armed with the '911uk list of things to look out for on a 996T' which is of course good news  . Unfortunately many seem to think that the asking price should be reduced to allow for new everything (eg. discs, rads, rear tyres etc) rather simply factoring in a %.

Sellers that have already factored in things like 3 year old rads or half worn discs and pads or tyres that have done 5k miles will get p'd off by chancers trying to knock a big lump off just because of a few 'advisories' found on a PPI.

This car seems realistically priced and could end up being a bargain for an equally realistic buyer.

Car does seem super cheap given the mkt.

You could make a real killing on it if it turns out to be a good one.

Sellers reply re having it checked over would be a concern tho, but as someone else said £22k as is gets u a £30k car.

Personally tho - and this is just me - i put a lot of emphasis on the seller when buying private, and in this instance i would walk away.
