542hp Range Rover Sport SVR Faces Its Arch-Enemy, The Porsche Cayenne Turbo
he Range Rover Sport SVR is the first Land Rover model that can go against Porsche's effing fast Cayenne Turbo on equal terms.
UK magazine Auto Express brought the two together and drove them on a race track to find out which is fastest. With the kind help of a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 mated to a ZF eight-speed auto, the Range Rover SVR makes 542hp (550PS) and 501lb-ft (680Nm) of torque, allowing it to score a fairly brisk 4.5 seconds time for the 0-60mph with a top speed of 162mph.
The Porsche Cayenne on the other hand uses a twin turbo 4.8-litre V8 mated to a Tiptronic eight-speed auto as well (and not a dual-clutch as falsely claimed in the video) which is slightly less powerful (520hp) but more torquey (533lb-ft/750Nm). Porsche says that the Cayenne Turbo is capable of 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 173mph.
On paper, this is a pretty close comparison; both of these models offer extreme pace and immense power for the ones who can afford to run them and keep an oil fountain running in their back yards. The track is probably the last place someone will ever see one or another of these extraordinary behemoths but doing so reveals that the distance between them is slightly larger than first thought.
