Will the 996 ever be a future classic?

They certainly seem to be aging better these days, been watching a few youtube vids and not many people have a bad thing to say about them.

Anyone can have a high powered golf or equivalent hot hatch, but its no sports car. The 996 seems to have that blend of analogue tech that doesn't intrude or nanny the car, could be looked upon as a golden era of drivers cars, before things went too hi-tech and bloated and laden with "safety".

Basically for the same reasons i love my Mk2 Escort, but with its modern engine and wiring bringing it up to a similar tech date as the 996.

It's a 911, already a classic by default, recently bought Carrera 4 with aero in meridian silver, been on here ages, but website issues kept blocking me.

"the 996 is already a modern classic icon"

Yeah that ^^^^^^^^^

Never wanted one but really enjoyed my 996 in the few years I had it. The 986 however is a very special car, at least to me.

Well Mr Magnus Walker has now collected 4 996's he said they're similar to driving an air cooled car but water cooled. He also states that he actually likes the gen 0ne headlights and the mag engine cases of the 70's inc the RS were a bigger problem than a imsb but we all know what they are worth now. Now we now that they won't reach aC status but he definately knows what to collect so i'd say the answer has to be yes.

I just think the obvious is being realised, the only regret I have with my car (and it's a big one) is that I don't have a propper throttle cable. For me anything newer than a throttle cable 996 is a lesser 911 driving experience.

I’m sure you could retro fit a throttle cable if it was that essential but honestly I have never noticed the difference and I guess that’s why people don’t bother

When you look at how much money is being pored into restoring the air cooled cars it's eye watering madness in most cases, which leads more to the point that retro fitting 996's to suit the owner's will soon be come the norm after all it's just bolt on parts that can swapped or changed , its much cheaper to have an engine rebuild or a gearbox change on a 996 and end up with a solid car, than to have weeks or months of body work done.
