I have an 18 year old son who is currently driving a 2001 Nissan Micra.

He's saved his pennies and rather than doing what a lot of his pals have done and buy a newer Fiesta he decided he'd like more car for his money... So he bought a relatively low mileage 2006 BMW 320 convertible. It's currently insured in my wife's names (he's not even a named driver on it yet).

Now he no longer has A levels to think about he'd like to start to drive his 320. He's been checking the usual comparison websites and the Insurance quotes are astronomical. A car that cost £4K asking £6k pa Insurance. Any suggestions of real brokers who could negotiate with an underwriter? He's got 7-8 months no claims on his Micra.

Thanks.

Not a chance chum to get it much lower. He has not yet completed one full year of driving to get 1 yr NCB? The first years Insurance is usually heavily loaded with the second year coming down as much as 30% on yr1. Plus the usual trouble of finding Insurance without a Black Box in the early years.

He needs to be at least 21 IMHO before you'll get decent quotes on high grouped cars. That said with 1yr NCB in yr 2 he might get a good price. Could be worth running a few quotes using what he will have in yr 2 at 19yrs to see if there is a drop :dont know:
