Insurance for modified Cayman

Anyone recommend an insurer who has insured them with a modified vehicle?

looking to buy a Cayman with lightened flywheel, GT3 throttle body, remap and lowered suspension.

Manning declined to quote for first year as I cannot demonstrate a history of driving performance cars. (they are happy to benefit from my business in year 2..... I don't think so!)

Anyone who has insured a modified vehicle have any recommendations, I am aware of the well advertised options, just trying to save going through the whole quotation process with each if they are then going to decline to quote.

Cheers,

I can't help you for Year 1 but don't cut your nose off to spite your face re Mannings in Year 2.

Their business policy almost certainly helps to keep quotes down for those that can demonstrate a relevant driving history.

Insurance premiums are all based on risk. Mannings are saying directly what other Insurance companies might say obliquely by quoting you an exorbitant price.

Yes I get that, but it doesn't help those who are buying their first performance car. I went through this 30 years ago trying to insure my first RS2000 escort, now in early 50's with 30 years driving experience (over 20,000 miles a year over the last 12 years) and with 1 claim in those 30 years some insurers won't even offer me a quote.

But they are happy for another insurer to take the risk and then after a year would like my business, because I have now proved myself worthy. That's cool, I get that and it's their business not mine. But unless their policy offers something I specifically want and the insurer who does insure me year 1 cannot supply, then those that decline won't be benefitting from my future business. I currently insure 2 cars and 2 motorbikes, loyalty should work both ways.

Back to my request, and any suggestions for suitable providers please? I have one quote now but be good to get a couple more.

I had a few mods on my 997.2 (lowered, exhaust etc) and was insured through Elephant without any issues. When discussing mods, do it on the phone, keep it woolly and try not to mention "performance".

Im familiar with AIB and Classicline and neither have increased premiums due to mods, currently with Classicline my 991 has quite a list, although they're not performance mods in the way yours are, but that said, it's not like you have a turbo and the remap is adding 30% more power.

I am with ClassicLine too and have no issues with them nor any sarcastic price escalations. Mods on my car are rather limited though (upgrades to the brakes, the 4 litre RS clutch and I run RS sized front tyres).

Thanks to the above contributors, AIB have sorted me out without any undue difficulty, so have to recommended for their assistance.

I used to use the more specialized brokers to get the Insurance for my modified 997.1 Turbo (9e stage 2, BBS wheels and few other bits all declared) - because when I first entered all the details a few years ago through the interweb , all the usual companies refused to quote.

But then having had to talk to Admiral about our multi car policy, turns out they are quite happy to insure. banging price as well

I think Nigel99 is bob on

When discussing mods, do it on the phone,

Have you tried you existing insurers, I had no problem with Admiral just adding mods to my policy as I went along, if you are really struggling try Adrian Flux they will insure anything and will even cover the modded items.

Post code is also an issue if you live anywhere risky. Living in BR2 made it difficult for me to insure my modified TVR but friends a few miles outside the M25 with the same modifications had no problems with the specialist insurers.

Cheers
My friend got a modified Subaru WRX last year and had a pretty rough time finding an insurer as he didn't have a very good driving history to show and so they wouldn't go on with it. It's pretty tricky to get to one who would.

I have a slightly modified 911 :D and I use Adrian Flux. Kidding, I have a heavily modified 997 Turbo (every part of the car has been changed or modified) and I've been insured with them for about 7 years now. Only thing I don't like is how they request paperwork to be filled in each with full lists of modifications. But the policies are good value I think.

My remapped Cayenne S diesel is insured with Liverpool Victoria with the remap fully disclosed. They allow modifications and the extra cost was negligible.
