911SC problem fitting new ignition assembly

Hi all.

After my ignition was damaged during an attempted theft I'm changing the 911 assembly for the recommended newer 964 assembly.

But it's slightly bigger than the original and it's proving difficult to attach the electrical connection cap when it's in situ.

Any one had any luck fitting the new one? Any advice is much appreciated.

Car is a '77 SC.

I have never needed to do anything like this but wonder if you need to replace the connecting cap also?
