992 generation line-up expanded with 3.75-litre twin-turbo unit good for 199mph and 0-62 in 2.8sec

The new addition to the range fills the gap between the 444bhp Carrera 4S and 641bhp Turbo S, packing 572bhp and 553lb ft from its twin-turbocharged 3.7-litre flat-six - 39bhp and 37lb ft more than the 991.2-gen 911 Turbo - which gets it from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 199mph.

The 911 Turbo is capable of achieving 22.6-23.5mpg on the WLTP cycle, emitting between 271 and 284g/km of CO2.

Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed PDK gearbox, as found in the higher-powered car, while Porsche's Traction Management active four-wheel drive system can send more torque to the front axle than in the previous generation.

The Turbo features variable-geometry turbochargers which use electronically controlled valves to adjust boost levels to suit engine speed and load. The symmetrically mounted turbochargers' compressor and turbine wheels spin in opposite directors, which, alongside a redesigned charge air cooling system and new piezo fuel injectors, let the engine rev more freely and improve throttle response.

The new addition to the range resembles its more powerful sibling with sizeable air intakes in its widened rear arches and a prominent variable rear spoiler, but is set apart by its four square exhaust tips, as opposed to the twin pipes featured on the S. The front end features electronically controlled cooling flaps and a larger front spoiler than the standard 911.

Additional hardware changes over the previous Turbo include a 42mm wider track at the front and 10mm at the rear for enhanced steering precision and 28mm larger front brake discs for improved stopping performance.

The Turbo is equipped with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard, which is claimed to offer a balance between responsiveness and comfort, while the optional PASM Sport system stiffens up the suspension and drops the ride height by 10mm in the name of enhanced agility.

Optional dynamic upgrades come in the form of hydraulic active anti-roll stabilisation and a set of ceramic brakes with ten-piston calipers on the front axle. An available Lightweight Design package shaves 30kg off the Turbo's kerb weight with the use of lightweight bucket seats in the front, the omission of the rear seats and less insulation material, while the Sport Design package brings bespoke rear light designs as well as black and carbon trim elements.

The interior is familiar from other models in the 911 line-up, featuring a 10.9in central infotainment screen and Porsche's 'Advanced Cockpit' digital display. Additional standard equipment over lower-spec models includes 14-way adjustable sports seats, a sports steering wheel with gearshift paddles and a Bose surround sound system.

Prices for the 911 Turbo start from £134,400 in Coupe form and £143,560 for the convertible, making it around £20,000 less than the Turbo S. The 992-generation 911 line-up is expected to be nearing completion, following the recent unveilings of the manual version and 911 Targa, with the hardcore, track-focussed 911 GT3 set for an unveiling later this year.

How can a car that looks so great in that second pic look so ugly in the first? :dont know:

I bet Kanye West loves it.

Mr JWW has just taken delivery of a Turbo S. Lovely car, in a new car, daily driver kind of way.
Nice little story actually about visiting an OPC 20 years ago and seeing a 996 Turbo.

Don't look Zingers! He's spec'd a moody blue interior.

Seriously though, I think he's nailed the spec and that paint colour is gorgeous. 8)

If that has same VTGs as turbo s a £600 remap to 750PS is achievable.

That engine good for 750PS out the box looking at its technical spec where Porsche claim it is 15% more efficient than the old engine. Then add another 150PS of electric power and I can see 900 PS 992 GT2 RS on horizon.

That interior very odd in GT models IMO. I think Porsche may change it quite a bit for GT cars.

992 definitely knocks spots off the 991. I hate to say it but IMO the 991 is looking like an ugly duckling between the 997 and 992 :hand:

I like 992 and 997 better than 991 styling wise too but 991 an elegant 911 if you spec them right. 992 more motorsport in stance which is cool.

Can't stand him and to be honest I think many of us sat in a 911 as a boy and hoped we might afford one one day...

But it's a great spec and I like the blue interior. I had one on my 997, it doesn't look that blue in real life.

Nice comparison pic of a new one landed at 9e for pre VMAX check.

Notice side view of 992 turbo on standard suspension without the -10mm sports suspension. Car barely looks different to 991 other than at the rear which I think is a step backwards other than at night when you can see that wonderful red light bar :)

If I was picking a 911 today at £140k I think I'd buy this base 992 turbo and send to 9e who will be having them at 750PS in a flash.

The new VTGs have wastegates which is a first to help with EGT and IATS so this is nice.

Downside are PPF EU regs so cooling now far more complicated and relies on electronic actuators to get air into the engine. Can see that going wrong effecting performance often as actuators always fail in the end.

I prefer the 4 square exhausts over the oval ones (jus like my 991  )

991 turbo is an ugly ducking?

992>991>997>996 which is inferior to 993 turbo surely?

Yep. I like the 991 GT3RS, but other than that they are lacking something in the esthetic department.

Others have commented much the same on here in the past so I'm obviously not alone in that thought. Ugly duckling might be a bit harsh lol, but the 997 and the 992 (of the later generation cars) definitely look much better. All imo of course.

All that said and done, I wouldn't rule out owning one. Just be my lesser preference.
