I'd never put flush near my 993. They generally thin the oil considerably, and with all the pumps etc associated with the dry sump arrangement I just wouldn't risk it.

Just get it nice and hot prior to draining.

That's a shame, Steve did some good work for me back in the day, is Johnny the younger guy that worked there at the same time. When I went they were in Lostock just outside of Northwich.

Does Johnny's place have any reviews or write ups, is he mainly still aircooled or does he do newer stuff as well?
Sounds tempting. Obviously I'd have to cut out the holes for the speaker myself.
I will see how I get on with my own fabrication before considering the black leather panels!
Sounds like a bargain compared to the Porsche price of £500 WITHOUT trimming!!! LOL, they really do take the piss, don't they???
Makes Lotus look like good value, FFS.
Okay, so I'm sitting in my office today and come across some Dyno Apps on the iTunes site... thinking why not, this should be a bit of fun... I've just invested some of my hard earned savings in one...

So okay it requires a few parameters to be entered... and to be extremely scientific I thought I'd ask all the boffins on here what they think are the best values.

Now the car is a 2001 996 Turbo Tipo...

The 2 values I need are... vehicle weight, including an allowance for 1 passanger (average 6 foot person whos just had breakfast), say half a tank of fuel, and whatever other nick nacks one might have in the car... I'm thinking 1,670kg's?

They also want to know the estimated drivetrain loss for Hp... given it's 4wd, would 25% be about right... or has someone else here got a definative value through their own dyno results?

Any thoughts on the above would be appreciated. It'll be fun to see how the App performs...

Hi Lee,

The distributor comes fully assembled, ready to go. The caps have to come off to line up the timing but this is very simple in a 993 too. The crank pully has a Top Dead Center (TDC) mark on it, you line this up with a mark on the fan housing (long mark right at it's base). You know the engine is on the correct stroke when the two marks (one for each rotor) line up on the corresponding lines clearly scribed into the top edge of the distributor body. Sounds complicated but it's really easy. If you need to do this I can try and find a picture of the distributor with the marks lined up.

With the engine like this you undo the 13mm nut holding the distributor in place and pull it out and stick the new one in. You have to pull it out, put it in a few times (story of my life) before you're happy that the rotors line up again properly (they stay in sync but as the cog that drives them is angled the rotors rotate a degree or two has they engage).

By far the hardest part for me was getting the distributor out. There's only one nut holding it in but when it's been in place for over 12 years it'll be in solid. It feels welded in place. Spray lots of your favorite lube on the base where it goes into the crankcase for a few days before giving it a go. Best way to get it out I found (after three days of near hernia exertion - one of my nuts has never been the same) is to get a "lady foot" lever bar and carefully lever under the body. This aside its easy.

Regards
Could be the case, but the vendor is making some pretty substantial claims about its mileage/history, verified by OPC's etc, and any buyer would be crazy not to fully check its condition before completing the purchase.

Cant see how its such a good long term investment with such questionable provenance!
Wonder if the vendors are going to read this thread!
